Jahrhundert" - das ist der inhaltliche Ausgangspunkt dieses Textes. Das bedeutet, die Betrachtung der Hochbegabten ist vor allem in einen schultheoretischen Kontext eingebunden. Nach einer kurzen allgemeinen Einführung in die Problematik des Hochbegabungsbegriffs und den dazugehörigen Erklärungen wird das gesamte Spektrum der Schultheorie und -pädagogik auf das Thema "Hochbegabung" bezogen. Die Dokumentation über die Auseinandersetzungen zur Legitimität einer Hochbegabtenförderung leitet in die schultheoretische Betrachtung von "Hochbegabung" ein. Der Überblick zur geschichtlichen Entwicklung pädagogischer und psychologischer Beschäftigungen mit besonders begabten Kindern und Jugendlichen ergänzt diesen Einstieg. Der schultheoretische Diskurs unterliegt dann einer systematischen Logik, die von der Schule als ein System mit ihren makroorganisatorischen und curricularen Möglichkeiten und Grenzen für Hochbegabte ausgeht, um über die einzelne Schule zu Unterrichtsmethoden und zur Qualifikation von Lehrkräften zu gelangen. In einem beschreibenden und zugleich argumentierendem Stil wird das Schulsystem daraufhin geprüft, inwiefern der Adressat namens "hochbegabter Schüler" dort eingegliedert werden kann. Es ist Anliegen zu prüfen, ob die Schlagzeile der Berliner Morgenpost "Förderung hochbegabter Schüler mangelhaft" (BERLINER MORGENPOST, 24.11.2000) ihre Berechtigung findet.
