Dieses Buch sammelt die theologischen Ansatze der ersten Christen, den Sinn des Kreuzes zu verstehen. Es erlautert die wichtigsten Kreuzestheologien und zeigt, worauf kirchliche Verkundigung und religionspadagogische Vermittlung heute achten mussen, wenn sie beim Thema Kreuz verstanden werden wollen. Zahlreiche Abbildungen - samtlich als Download weiterverwendbar - helfen beim Studium sowie bei der Vermittlung in Schule, Lehre, Katechese. Kapitel A skizziert das Problem, dem sich die fruhe Kirche nach dem Tod Jesu auf Golgota gegenubersieht. In Kapitel B wird gefragt, wer oder was die fruhe Kirche bewegt, das Kreuz in den Mittelpunkt der Verkundigung zu stellen. Kapitel C nimmt neutestamentliche Theologen in den Blick, die sich ein halbes Jahrhundert lang um eine adaquate Deutung des Kreuzes bemuhen. Kapitel D geht der Frage nach, wo die fruhe Kirche aus Juden und Heiden uberall nach Deute- und Interpretationshilfen sucht. In Kapitel E werden aus einer Vielzahl von neutestamentlichen Texten, in denen die verschiedenen Interpreten ihr Ringen um die Bedeutung des Kreuzestodes Jesu festgehalten haben, dreizehn ausgewahlt, die aufgrund ihrer Sprache und Aussage zentral erscheinen. Kapitel F fragt schliesslich, worauf die kirchliche Verkundigung und die religionspadagogische Vermittlung heute beim Thema Kreuz achten muss, wenn sie eine Chance auf Verstandnis haben will. Das Buch hat weniger Fachtheologen als vielmehr Studierende, in Schulen und Bildungshausern Lehrende wie in der Verkundigung und Seelsorge Tatige im Blick, nicht zuletzt aber auch die vielen, die sich mit dem Bekenntnis zum Kreuz als "Instrument" der Erlosung schwertun. Das Thema ist komplex, schwer zu durchschauen und noch schwerer zu verstehen. Grund genug, es einmal anders anzugehen. So erleichtern insgesamt 160 in den Text eingestreute Medien sein Verstehen wie auch seine Vermittlung: Eine einfache Skizze zeigt sich oft effektiver als eine wortreiche Erklarung; eine Rekonstruktionszeichnung erleichtert die unentbehrliche Ruckkehr in die biblische Vergangenheit; Textaufrisse helfen, einen Text in seiner Struktur und damit in seinem Aussagekern offenzulegen und ein Bild sagt oft mehr aus als eine noch so detaillierte Beschreibung.
