Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensforschung, Operations Research, Note: 2,1, Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft Berlin (FHW / HWR Berlin), Veranstaltung: Unternehmen, Betrieb, Arbeit aus historisch-sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die 1990er Jahre waren für die USA eine aus gesamtwirtschaftlicher Sicht erfolgreiche Periode. Seit 1991 konnte ein wirtschaftliches Wachstum verzeichnet werden, welches nach einer jahrelangen nur mäßigen wirtschaft-lichen Entwicklung der bislang längste wirtschaftliche Aufschwung in der Geschichte der USA werden sollte. So stieg die Produktivität stark an und die Arbeitslosigkeit lag Ende 2000 bei einer Quote von nur noch 4%. Auch die Inflationsrate war bis zum Ende der 1990er Jahre stabil oder teilweise sogar rückläufig. Diese außergewöhnliche konjunkturelle Entwicklung wird häufig mit der New Economy in Verbindung gebracht. Es gibt zwar keine einheitliche Definition für den Begriff New Economy, die Vorstellung aber ist es, dass neue Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (ITK) in alle wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Bereiche vordringen und die USA seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre dadurch in ein neues Zeitalter eingetreten sind. Der Begriff New Economy fand ab Mitte bzw. Ende der 1990er Jahre auch in Europa Verwendung. Im Gegensatz zu der Produktivitätsentwicklung der USA hat sich die Entwicklung der Produktivität in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland aber erst gegen Ende der 1990er Jahre leicht beschleunigt. Im Jahr 2000 stieg der Nasdaq, der Gesamtindex der Technologiebörse in den USA, unaufhörlich an, bis er sogar den Dow Jones überholte. Eine ähnliche Entwicklung war zur gleichen Zeit in Deutschland zu beobachten: der NEMAX-50 überholte den DAX, bis es schließlich, beim Nasdaq genau wie beim NEMAX-50, zu einem Absturz kam.
