About the Book

A Future Chron Book.

(This is an expanded version of the books "From The Earth V-1" and "From The Earth V-2").

Freedom.

Some families pursue money, some pursue fame, others pursue both. But the extended Jackson family pursued freedom, even if it meant leaving the Earth behind. From the Earth, to the planets, to the stars, in these five novelette-sized stories the Jackson family will leave Earth and begin their journey to the stars and freedom.

The first story "Whatsoever You Do" finds Jack Jackson battling almost alone to stop a world-wide epidemic.

In the next story "War Through The Pines" Jack's son discovers a mysterious signal coming from Earth orbit. That signal is a precursor to a war in space that will soon spread across the entire world.
, /br>The following story "Vigilance" is set on Mars and finds the Jackson family caught up in a cold war of the worlds. They will have to find out who is causing the "accidents" on Mars before someone is killed.

"To Tend And Watch Over" returns to Earth and a Jackson member left behind. Davide Jackson will have to find a way to live in a "nanny world" controlled by others and find happiness. The answer, as usual, is to be found in his own back yard.

The next story, "Union" follows a member of the family into the far reaches of the Asteroid Belt where the battle is as always, between those that seek to control and those that would live free.

The sixth story "Circle Of Retribution" moves the action to Saturn's moon Titan. There a young Jackson is hindered in his mission to fly a fusion ship called a "skimmer" into Saturn's atmosphere and gather He3. A sabotaged ship could be the end of his mission.

The following story "Freedom From Want" finds a Jackson family fleeing Mars after the government accepts management by AI's. A Jackson leads the exodus of thousands but not without threats and efforts to stop them forcefully.

The next story "Break Up" returns to Earth and finds a breakdown in civil institutions underway with the AI's facillitating the break up for their own reasons.

The ninth story "Kuiper Station" in the series finds a Jackson family on their way to establish a human foothold in the Kuiper Belt. But their efforts are to be frustrated by agents of the Terran Federation. This is the first story to introduce the concept of the Star Way. A laser-powered, light-sail driven space highway to the stars.

The tenth story "The Cloud" introduces the construction of the Star Way, the greatest engineering project in the history of humanity. But the building of such a distributed project (a beam repeater every 100 AU) over light-years of distance is almost impossible to manage.

The last story "First Interstellar" describes the first voyage across the Star Way from Earth to Alpha Centauri. But on a trip that will last almost four years ship time, there is plenty of opportunity for problems even without a saboteur onboard.

This expanded edition of the original volumes includes a future timeline which introduces each story and serves to place the story in relation to the rest of the Future Chron Universe.

If you like a fast-moving story, characters that never give up, and science with a sense of wonder, this is for you. Hard science fiction - old school.
