Navi Radjou and Jaideep Prabhu discuss the rise of the frugal economy in countries around the world in Frugal Innovation: How To Do Better With Less. In today’s world of cutthroat competition, cutting costs is the only way to make progress. Frugality, therefore, is a necessity in today’s business models. Companies are driving this philosophy around the world, and in this book, the authors discuss how customer pressure, competition and delivery, drive companies to cut costs. This book delves into the business models of companies such as American Express, Ford, GE, IBM, Levi Strauss, Marks & Spencer, Novartis, Pearson, PepsiCo, Renault-Nissan, Siemens and Unilever, to explain how companies can excel by doing better, faster and cheaper with a lot less. Using over 50 case studies, this book discusses the principles, perspectives and the techniques behind frugal innovation, showing Corporate India how to take charge of the chance to rise up and exceed expectations while minimizing the use of resources. Reviews for the Book “As the authors highlight, by combining the frugal ingenuity of developing nations with the advanced R&D capabilities of advanced economics, companies can create high-quality products and services that are affordable, sustainable, and benefit humanity as a whole. This [book] provides the essential roadmap for those wishing to navigate this new world. Frugal innovation is an idea - and a book - whose time has come.” - Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever. “This book vividly describes the frugal innovation revolution unfolding in the West. India, where many innovations have evolved out of the necessity to “do more (and better) with less”, can be an important global partner to co-create frugal solutions that benefit all humanity.” - Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder, Infosys, and former Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India.
