About the Book

Illinois Prairie farming was by horses and manpower. For a young lad it was a life filled with animals and great experiences. The teen years in Kentucky were filled with hard work that built muscle and schools that still taught great grammar and math. WWII gave Country Boy the opportunity to be a B-25 pilot. The training command was not a war zone but what do you do when you see another plane coming head on just a few yards ahead? You see the world change in 21 years as you watch through the driver's window of Portland, Oregon street cars and buses and see automobiles fill the streets. What a great job for a people person. Beautiful memories fill your heart and mind. Your eyewitness reports help police catch criminals. I helped make a difference for families when I challenged the medical establishment and played a solid roll in getting fathers in the delivery room. Hit the road with a cross country truck. As you travel the Oregon Trail you don't feel alone when you think of all the pioneers and outlaws who were here not long ago. That's right, not long ago. It doesn't seem long when your lovely wife is 99 years old, was a war baby delivered by an ex slave. Libby Jane's father was 6 years old when the Civil War started. We have lived history. We have made history. We have made a difference wherever we lived. We hope we have shown you how to enjoy your job and make a difference in your world. Our memories are too many for this book. Hopefully there will be another.
About the Author: The first nine years of Charles Romans' life were horse and buggy days. Farming was with horses and manpower. A Midwest farm was a good place to ride out the great depression. There was plenty to eat. At the age of nine the family moved to his father's childhood home in Kentucky. The 60 acres had 40 acres of pristine woods and rocky hills with Green River along the back, a marvelous playground for a teen aged boy. High School vacations were spent in Illinois driving tractors and seeing the beginning of mechanized farming. He was still a teen ager when he got his wings and officer bars in the Army Air Corp. He had been a straight A student in High School. He was consistently rated as E for excellent by his Air Corp trainers. Skill at operating vehicles served him well for driving street cars and buses in Portland, Oregon as well as several years of coast to coast trucking. Although photography is his sideline or avocation he became a well-known Portland photographer especially in weddings. He has seen tremendous changes in farming, transportation and photography. He has lived the changes. He is a slow learner and a plodder but isn't satisfied until he is best at what he is doing. He doesn't see anything special about that since he thinks anybody else can do the same thing.
