About the Book

From Revolution to Constitution is a general survey of American History from the Stamp Act in 1765 to the ratification of the Constitution and the beginnings of the national government in 1789. Most books tend to focus on the rebellion, the war, or the establishment of the Constitution. This is a unique blending of all three into a basic general survey, written with passion and a sense of humor, by stand-up comedian and historian Mike Donovan. This is unique book and a fun time. Here's a sample: SEIGE OF FORT MOTTE - 5.12.81 - BECKY'S ARROWS The Brit-Tories took over ("requisitioned") a brick home on a plantation on the Congaree River in South Carolina by expelling its owner, Rebecca B. Motte. Becky B had to go live in one of her slave huts, while the British ate her food, drank her wine, petted her dog, and slept in her bed. The newly fortified home on the plantation took on the nickname of Fort Motte, but it was Rebecca's house. The Marion and Sumter men surrounded the plantation secretly, and managed to contact Mrs. Motte, who was pretty hot .... about what was going on. Frances Marion asked Mrs. Motte if she would allow the Patriots to attack her house. They were thinking of firing flaming arrows into the roof and then shooting up the occupants as they fled. It was her call. Rebecca gave the famous reply: "Hell boys, I'll supply the arrows!" Sure enough, she and her brother had a good stockpile of top-quality bows and arrows. She put them at the disposal of her fellow Americans. They shot their flaming arrows in the air. Mrs. Motte actually smiled with delight as her own house burned down and the interlopers got their musket-ball comeuppance as they fled the building. Her husband Mike Motte fired one flaming arrow himself. (Reminds me of the time my late friend Phil trashed his Brockton apartment because he was being "unjustly" evicted.) The battle site is on private property today in the town of St. Matthews, SC. About 90 men died in the Battle of Fort Motte. Becky was unharmed and the plantation was back in business after the war. Becky Motte is one of the flaming hot heroines of the American Revolution
