About the Book

My main goal of writing this book is to help anyone walk into a gym feeling confident that they know what to do and how to do it-to give them the confidence to succeed and take out the fear and intimidation of going into a big gym. I also want people to understand the "what" and "why" of their training program-to give them the tools they need to create their own training program, and to help them continue to improve on their fitness no matter what their goals are.
About the Author: Brett Gunderson grew up in Orange County Calif. He has now lived in Placentia for the past 17 years. He is married to his wife, April, of 15 years. They have one son, Cody, age 9. He earned his B.S. in kinesiology at CSUF. He returned to CSUF to complete his masters in exercise physiology. His thesis work was done in the gerontology department, studying the benefits and efficiency of strength training with people over the age of 65. It was during this time that Brett perfected his unique style of training. Although Brett has trained professional athletes from three different sports and an Olympic gold medalist, it was his time in the gerontology center that his passion grew to help people rehabilitate from injuries, get their strength and independence back, and improve their quality of life. These were the areas that interested him the most. Brett has worked both as a trainer and manager at private training studios. From there, he went on to doing in-home training. He opened and ran his own gym for years before selling the gym and returning to in-home training. This has allowed him more time to focus on his family and personal clients. Brett developed the "Stay Strong, Live Long" curriculum for the Cordelia Knott Center for Wellness. This strength program focused on muscle recovery, stamina and flexibility for post-cancer and rehab clients. Brett continues to work as a consultant for apartment communities and homeowner associations on equipment purchases and gym layouts. He also provides fitness and nutrition seminars for them. Brett competed in power lifting and then bodybuilding, winning county and state titles, and competed nationally before retiring from the sport. He still works with competitors on their nutrition and posing routines. He has been featured in a number of fitness magazines.
