About the Author: Denise Rutledge started Writing as a Ghost in 2007. Initially, she worked part time in addition to two other part time jobs. By 2009, her reputation for solid writing and engaging design had grown to where she was able to switch to full-time as a freelance writer.
The path to her writing career began when she fell in love with words in first grade. She found learning to read difficult, yet a mother who took library science had already rubbed off on her. Rutledge was determined to overcome every obstacle, and Miss Hoffer was a teacher who inspired her to believe she could. By the end of the year she attained her goal-to be the student who had read the most books that year.
Her fascination with plot, story line and facts was firmly entrenched! She wrote her first illustrated book at the age of 10 as a gift to the friend she had to leave when her family moved.
When she entered college, Rutledge discovered that journalism provided excellent discipline, yet newspaper writing didn't fit her personality. She changed majors to Home Economics, with an emphasis in design.
It would take 25 years before Rutledge returned to her passion for writing. When she did, she found that her writing abilities were complemented by her life experiences. At the same time, she had a steep learning curve. The market for writing had changed significantly.
Yet she also discovered the new world of opportunity created by the internet and print on demand publishing offered the perfect environment for her development as a writer and designer.
Rutledge has personal experience using all of the income earning avenues covered in this book. She writes from practical knowledge.
