About the Book

From the imagination of Irvin J. Salazar comes the deeply disturbing story of the shattered mind of Francis Furter. This isn't the typical story of the nerdy guy who overcomes everything to beat the bully and get the girl. This is the real world where sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you beg or try, you'll still keep losing. The story starts with Francis sitting on his couch in his tighty whities with the barrel of a gun pressed firmly against his head as he recounts the days leading up to his nervous breakdown. Francis is a lonely, depressed, out of shape bachelor, who just wants a little affection. He has a menial data entry job at a big insurance company where he's mocked and dressed down by his supervisor on a daily bases and constantly in the cross hairs of the resident office big shots known as the "Alpha Squad". His only bright spot at work and in his mind is Anna Mitchell, the living goddess of his heart. When she's around, nothing hurts. His constant infatuation with her never goes farther than a few jumbled words, but in his mind, they're passionately in love. His home life isn't much better. He yearns for another in his one bedroom apartment, but he lives alone and the silence is deafening to him. Gavin, the black, gay, club DJ, and his boyfriend Marco, the fabulously flamboyant Puerto Rican baker, are his next door neighbors who somewhat lookout for Francis. They even nicknamed him Francie. His across the hall neighbor Tara, is a pretty, party girl, stoner with a revolving door of random men coming and leaving from her overly cluttered apartment on a pretty regular basis. He lives in sunny Clearwater Florida, far away from his childhood home town of Orange Grove Florida, but for a very dark reason. Being the son of the man known as the "Devil of Orange Grove", he hides this from everyone knowing that if one person figured this out, it would be devastating for him. Francis tries to stay as far away from his old life as much as he can, but he constantly feels his father standing over him scowling. It also doesn't help that every time Francis looks in the mirror, he sees the uncanny resemblance to his father which hurts his soul even more. His father was a detestable person who would mentally torture Francis and his mother while putting on this outward appearance of an intellectual who's an upstanding father and Junior High teacher. Secretly William Furter was a serial pedophile and child rapist who was able to keep his victims quiet through his mental manipulations. Once he was found out, the whole town knew and while William Furter was in prison, a very young Francis took the brunt of the punishment over something he had no part in. It forever changed his childhood and all those individual traumas made him the broken, sad, adult he is today who doesn't even understand the concept of having self-esteem. This is the story of a man coming to the edge of his breaking point and finally breaking. Like watching a car accident in slow motion and knowing the end will be a cataclysm of disaster and pain, but all you can do is watch it happen. Francis is the walking embodiment of the seven deadly sins and you watch Francis play out each sin with absolute precision. He always seems to be his own worst enemy as he will make his own decisions to do something he knows will hurt himself, but still does it. When he's bullied, which is pretty regularly, he ends up taking the bullies side and not defending himself. In the end, he wavers between being the victim and the villain of the story and that generally tends to be the day to day life of Francis William Furter.
