"I may feel an adventure coming on."
Mophead McPhearson and his sister Domino are off on a new adventure, this time to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, where Dad will be researching his next mystery novel.
But first, Dad insists on a stop in the nearby town of Sturgis on the final day of the legendary Motorcycle Road Rally. While Dad is souvenir shopping, Mophead encounters two dark strangers outside Black Hills Custom Gemstones, minutes before the theft of a $100,000 ring.
Even more mysterious is the appearance of both dark strangers at Mount Rushmore the next day. The first, Logan Washington, is a Mount Rushmore park ranger who is courteous and helpful. But is he who he claims he is? Or is he the same dark man in different clothes whom they dub "Mr. Statue" for his creepy way of standing still and talking to himself?
Convinced the dark strangers are involved in the Sturgis ring heist, Mophead and Domino dive into their favorite roles as detectives and observers. After joining Ranger Logan and Dad on a trip up Mount Rushmore to view the unfinished Hall of Records behind Abe Lincoln's head, they descend to find Mr. Statue, actually Logan's cousin Josiah Hallston, waiting for them.
Josiah tries to convince Logan and the McPhearsons that he's put his criminal past behind him. He claims he didn't steal the ring but knows who did. As Logan and the McPhearsons unravel clues in search of the truth, they help authorities nab the true jewel thief while also uncovering the identity of the neighborhood kids behind the town's meddlesome Tourist Trap Gang, all in the same night.
But the adventure isn't over yet. On a hike with Ranger Logan on his mountain property near Mount Rushmore, Mophead spots arrows carved into a tree. Could the arrows be pointing to buried treasure? Maybe Black Hills gold?
Hilarious nicknames aside, Mophead and Domino are caught up in an adventure they won't soon forget! Join them as they connect Four Faces, The Ring & The Gold.
