About the Book

"The Force for Evil" is written in the style of the English Mystery Classics but set in the twenty-first century amidst the apocalyptic threats of nuclear conflict as religious extremism and mounting natural & man-made crises confront an increasingly disenchanted society. "The Force for Evil" follows the exploits of three of the world's greatest contemporary detectives, Chief Inspector Mark Ogilvie of Scotland Yard, Ex-RCMP Mountie Monsieur Philippe Dubois and the legendary Ms Janet Hardy.Intertwined is the story of the historic Barringtons of Shrivenham Oxfordshire England. At stake are the family's vast estates, fortune and extinct peerage.Prof Ramirez returns to London after completing his appointment as Governor-General of a Caribbean Island. He urgently seeks a secret meeting with the trio of detectives and his half-brother, Robert Barrington at Cranfield University Barrington Library, Shrivenham Oxfordshire. The criminal scientist is seeking their assistance on a grave matter of international security. Minutes before he is due to brief them at the meeting, Ramirez is kidnapped. The detectives learn that Ramirez had uncovered a plot, by a Force for Evil working behind the scenes in the United Nations, to set up 1WG, a One World Government. Ramirez believed the unintended consequences of policies and activities undertaken by various UN organisations were actually the intended consequences. He had decided to research the matter scientifically and expose the plot in a new book. In Düsseldorf, Detective Hans Braun from the German NRW Police interviews the Director of Ramirez's publishers. That night the Director Herr Vogelman is murdered and the computer files containing Ramirez's work are wiped clean.Ms Janet Hardy's brother Charles, a senior member of the faceless men and women behind the Force for Evil, must stop the publication of Ramirez's book, "A Force for Evil", at all costs. A heavily drugged Ramirez is transported in a UN military style ambulance to a WHO Clinic in the Swiss Alps. Chief Inspector Ogilvie coordinates investigations in Oxfordshire and search Ramirez's London apartment and uncovers clues that the wily master criminal had planted and an external hard drive backup of his entire new book.Ms Janet Hardy deciphers the secret message left for her by Ramirez and recovers a flash drive in which he relates on video events leading up to his being offered the role of President of the World by the Force for Evil and his rejection thereof. Ramirez has spurned his former lover, "The Lady", Shireene Dillon and confesses his deep feelings for Janet Hardy.Philippe Dubois and his colleague are able to locate Ramirez through the Vehicle Tracking System fitted to all UN vehicles and rescue him. Ramirez's new book is a runaway hit at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The faceless men and women of the Force for Evil respond by quite ruthlessly disposing of all participants in the kidnapping of Ramirez and the murder of the Director of the Publishing Company. No one pays much attention to the man in a wheelchair accompanied a striking woman who moves with the lithe effortlessness of an athlete. A physician would have noticed the muscular wastage usually associated with a prolonged period of immobility. Has Janet Hardy fallen for her criminal nemesis?Charles Hardy is offered and becomes the World President Elect of the One World Government with "The Lady", the ambitious, beautiful Shireene Dillon as his Deputy. Ramirez's half-brother, Robert Barrington and wife Ursula return to Silverdale Australia. They now view world events as part of the universal battle between Good and Evil. The UN begins implementing programs to address basic human needs of food, water, energy, clothing & shelter, Conflict resolution, Compliance with UN Resolutions, Peace & Security, Health and Education. Prof Ramirez was right but it remains to be seen if he and Janet Hardy will pay the ultimate price.
