El Foete de Oro narra en primera persona la vida del ex jinete Douglas Vásquez a partir de su esplendorosa aparición en el hipódromo La Rinconada. Esencialmente revela los detalles que sumergieron al jockey en el ocaso después de haber despertado las más elevadas expectativas como el potencial sucesor del astro Juan Vicente Tovar, la leyenda más grande que hasta ahora ha existido en La Rinconada.
Tovar, por cierto, fue uno de los principales acosadores de Douglas Vásquez en el recinto de jinetes, hasta que al cabo de varias semanas comprendió su error y se disculpó con Douglas Vásquez, a quien responsabilizaba de haberlo hecho perder un final contra Douglas Valiente.
Ángel Francisco Parra en su momento ofreció los mejores elogios para Vásquez, quien en este corto lapso que va de 1985 a 1987 mereció para siempre el aprecio y la nostalgia de la fanaticada hípica de Venezuela.
Esta biografía -primera vez que un jinete venezolano escribe sus memorias y las publica- también escudriña el resto de los espacios de la vida de Douglas Vásquez, quien en la temporada de 1986 se vislumbraba como el seguro ganador de la estadística, hasta que los problemas personales y profesionales apagaron su buena estrella.
Se cuenta todo lo que el recuerdo abarca: su llegada a La Rinconada y sus buenas y regulares amistades, sus relaciones con el gremio de jinetes y con algunas individualidades ligadas a las mafias. ¿Participó Douglas en arreglos de carreras? Abundan anécdotas a este respecto.
Su relación con Vittorio Catanese y las circunstancias que lo llevaron a reinar en la cuadra de la estrella de Mesina.
¿Fue Douglas novio de la hija de Catanese? Todo está contado sin reservas.
El jinete Argimiro Guerrero señala en este libro que Douglas Vásquez iba directo a emular al jinete estadounidense Steve Cauthen y el periodista Alfredo Iglesias sostiene que en la historia de La Rinconada ha habido dos incomparables: José Luis Vargas y Douglas Vásquez.
El profesor Manuel Vásquez, referente como pronosticador de la Gaceta Hípica, fue el primer agente de Douglas Vásquez en La Rinconada: "Pudo haber ganado la estadística de 1986 si no hubiese sido por la malas juntas".
