About the Book

This is a first English translation of a biography of Madame Barbe Avrillot Acarie, 1566-1618 written in 1863 by Mr. Georges de Cadoudal. Madame Acarie was largely responsible for the establishment of the religious reforms of the cloistered orders in the Roman Catholic Church of the 16th and 17th Centuries in France. She and other Catholic leaders brought the first mother superiors from St. Teresa of Avila's convents in Spain to train and establish the Discalced Carmelite Order. Most of the Sisters had lived and studied directly under St.Teresa of Avila. Madame Acarie was a devout Roman Catholic all her life and the book takes the reader on a short journey of her life and shows her dedication to reforming the cloistered orders within the Church in France. Much of what was accomplished in France for the establishment of The Carmelite Order influenced reforms for the other religious orders. Her cause for sainthood is still pending but she has been classified as "blessed" as of this date.

It has been 245 years since her death when Mr. Cadoudal wrote this book, now it has been another 157 years to be able to read it in English and learn about her gracious life. So, now 402 years after her death readers can learn about how the French Carmelite Order began. How it was begun with the amazing help of Spain's Discalced Carmelite Order. This Order led the way for a revival of the early Christian practices in the cloistered monasteries and convents of Europe.

The author, Teresa Farris-Dacar has written a New Introduction to the First English Translation of this book to provide a few interesting bits of history that will assist the reader in establishing a perspective on this time frame in which Madame Acarie lived. The translation has been two years in work and editing. Ms Farris-Dacar has also transcribed two other books from French into English titled, The English Translation of The Life of Mother Anne- Seraphine Boulier, 1628-1683: Religious of The Visitation of Holy Mary Monastery, Dijon, France; and The First English Translation of The Records of The Monastery of Dijon, France 1611-1789. Other written works by the author include Heaven Bound By Wearing The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, a historical novel titled For God and King, and a history book titled From England - To Barbados - To Carolina, 1670-1700: The Founding of Charles Towne.
