About the Book

"The Fire Within" is a book that allows a reader enter the diverse world of author's experience and imagination. The book is divided into three parts, "Of Love and Lust", "A Dive Into the Darkness" and "Out of the Darkness". The reader will meet the author's personal darkness and demons or can drown into the blood stirring stories and poems that play with the border of romantic and erotic. The sharpness and rawness of the texts give them power that makes the reader gobble up the book.As a queer feminist writer Kaarin Keski-Korhonen deals in her literature with different themes that are often taboos in the society, like depression, not fitting in to the social groups, but also BDSM and queer love. The direct and honest way of the author's writing makes it easy to relate to the themes. This occasionally dark but still a beautiful collection of short stories and poems is a felicitous reading for everyone that seeks immediate emotions and smooth lines.
About the Author: Kaarin Keski-Korhonen has written poetry, short stories and novels for over a decade. Her artistic analyses on lesbian life with its joy and pleasure, sorrow and pain let us enter the world in which lesbian women are the celebrated, yet self-evident subjects. Drawing from her personal experiences, Keski-Korhonen weaves dreamy, but compelling and joyful narratives, which map the whole spectrum of human existence. As a feminist, Keski-Korhonen has used her own experiences to tackle violence and abuse. Touchingly desperate stories swirl around death, surviving, and love. Desperation and guilt generate a silver lining of hope, courage to remain vulnerable, and human touch. Lesbian existence is portrayed in all its variety - not an object of a white male gaze, but an overwhelming zest for life. While Keski-Korhonen does not hesitate to discuss the dark side of lesbian relationships, the abuse, cheating, jealousy, and broken hearts, she at the same time cherishes the delicate seedlings of hope, love and compassion. Her texts celebrate the power and regenerative potential of love, passion and lust. As a feminist, Keski-Korhonen also recognizes the structural oppression women face in their everyday work life. Based on her own experiences on low-pay jobs, Keski-Korhonen gives a voice for women whose existence is based on the fact of modern grinding. Beauty and glimpses of joy are discovered even in the darkest corners of hard work. Besides the overarching themes of love, passion and suffering, Keski-Korhonen's texts touch upon family relations and development as human being. Are we allowed to grow towards our full potential? Who might help us? Are we allowed to exist? These questions point toward equality and the inevitable inequality, experienced by sexual minorities. Societal themes are implied between the lines, although the focus is on personal human experiences. Biography (c) 2018 Anu Penttilä
