About the Author: Though Colorado is my home, I was born in northern Minnesota. It's true what they say-you can take the girl out of the woods but you can't take the woods out of the girl. A piece of my heart will always belong to the lakes and forests of Minnesota. My love of writing took flight at the tender age of four when I was caught writing with my crayons on the knotty pine walls of my family home. In high school I was invited to write an article or two for the city newspaper about school events. As a teen, I spent a great deal of time in my room and on the lake, floating in a boat or sitting on the dock with my feet in the water, writing poetry. Some of my poems have been published in poetry anthologies. Over the years, I completed an online Journalism/Short Story Writing class, wrote in a journal for each of my boys until they were twelve, and was a stringer for a local newspaper, writing about community and school events. Before my boys were born, and during their early years, while they napped and after they went to bed, I spent my time writing, producing a rough draft for two and a half novels, saved on floppy discs, which I thought I had lost over the years. Imagine my joy when I found them in a box and was able to convert them to a word document long after floppy discs disappeared. Hallelujah! I'm a huge supporter of the Indie Publishing industry and thoroughly enjoy being involved in every part of the publishing process. However, I'm also a huge supporter of hiring a professional editor and cover designer, at the very least. The first draft of each of my books started with NaNoWriMo. My first book, The Inheritance, was published in June, 2014. The first in the Melanie Hogan Mysteries, Shear Madness, was published in July, 2015, and Shear Deception, book two, was published in March, 2016. The first in the Whispering Pines Trilogy, Finding Abby, is planned for release at the end of 2016. I also have various short stories incubating in various stages, all of which are mysteries. I am a member of Sisters in Crime (National, Guppies, and Colorado chapters) and Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. I subscribe to Writer's Digest, Writers and Poets, The Writer, and always have two books going at the same time, one on the writing craft and one fiction. Mostly mysteries, of course.
