Denn keine andere Medienbranche hat sich in den letzten fünfundzwanzig Jahren so stark verändert wie das Fernsehen. Vom Anbeginn des Rundfunks in den Fünfzigerjahren, dass durch seinen öffentlich-rechtlichen Charakter geprägt war, wandelte es sich zum Dualen System in den Achtziger-jahren. Einher mit diesem Wandel gingen auch vielfache technische Veränderungen: Emp-fangsgeräte, Übertragungskanäle und Programme haben sich stark verändert; Schwarz-weißes Fernsehen wurde farbig, die Programmanzahl stieg von zunächst drei deutschen-landweiten Programmen (Das Erste, Das Zweite, und die dritten Programme) auf mehrere hundert internationale Vollprogramme an. Die fortschreitende Digitalisierung - von der Pro-duktion über die Distribution bis zum Empfang von Fernsehprogrammen, hat insbesondere in den letzten fünf Jahren zu vielgestaltigen Veränderungen in der Fernsehlandschaft geführt. Insbesondere das Internet hat zu einem Zusammenwachsen der Distributionskanäle ver-schiedener Medien geführt, wie beim 'Internetfernsehen' zu beobachten war und ist. Die Medienlandschaft befindet sich aktuell in einem Umbruch, in der bisher getrennte Medien-branchen von Telekommunikation, Rundfunk und Internet zunehmend miteinander ver-schmelzen. Zwar ist das konventionelle Fernsehen aktuell noch Leitmedium - gerade unter den jüngeren Nutzern (in der Alterskohorte von 14 - 29 Jahren) ist jedoch bereits das Internet Leitmedium.
