About the Book

People come to worship spaces expecting something to happen. They want to be fully engaged in an experience that stimulates their hearts and minds. They want to hear afresh the sacred stories that bring them together and bring meaning to their lives, and they want to feel renewed as they return to their world. Feeding Imaginations shows preachers and congregational leaders how to bring more visual arts into worship, not only through the use of projected imagery, but through developing awareness of the architecture of the holy space in which they gather. Growing out of many years of producing multimedia worship services, leading small group tours to world-class art museums and churches, and studying the architecture of sacred spaces, the author offers practical suggestions for clergy and laity to engage the full creative energies of their congregation in their worship space in service of their central mission.
About the Author: The Rev. Michael Bausch, D. Min., is a parish minister, author, and educator who teaches the use of the arts and multimedia in worship based on many years of parish ministry experience in the United Church of Christ. Over the last fifteen years he has been a keynote speaker at a large number of UCC and Presbyterian denominational events. His teaching experience includes offering summer courses in the subject for several years at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and in a number of other mainline seminaries, including the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, the Vancouver School of Theology, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and Luther Seminary. Besides teaching biblical studies courses at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, he has extensive online teaching experience that includes developing and teaching courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, including summer online courses for the Pacific School of Religion. His books include A Media Sourcebook (Pacific School of Religion, 1973), Everflowing Streams: Songs for Worship (with Ruth Duck, The Pilgrim Press, 1981), and Silver Screen, Sacred Story: Using Multimedia in Worship (The Alban Institute, 2002). He has written numerous articles for publications such as The Clergy Journal, Liturgy: Journal of the Liturgical Conference, and Church Educator. Links to his occasional blog are found at his Web site www.screenpreaching.com.
