About the Book

When examining the early 21st-century China, we need to trace back to the historical events that have lead to this point, and only then we can understand the pulse of 21st-century China. If we can unravel how 21st-century China came about, we then possess the key to unlock its future. During the national day parade of 1984, students of Peking University displayed the banner "Hello Xiaoping," which marked the beginning of a new country, a new generation, the "Hello Xiaoping" generation. "Hello Xiaoping" generation and "Long live Chairman Mao" generation have nothing in common. This new generation embodies personal independence and free will of the Chinese people. "Hello Xiaoping" was the beginning of the second generation after the 1911 Revolution, and Chinese people once again embarked on the journey of prosperity. The 2018 China-US trade war is not an economic war; rather it is the second Cuban Missile Crisis. The currently closed society of China results in the country's inability to understand the crisis and the country's lack of action towards the crisis. Just like this, China is slipping closer and closer towards the impending military conflict. However, this is not unavoidable. How to understand the 1950 Korean War will decide China's destiny in the 21st century. Three Korean wars in Chinese history ended three times the ruling Chinese government at the time. A senior Nationalist Party official even described the Korean War as the Xi'an Incident, arguing that the Korean War had a crucial impact on the survival of the National Government. It is now, or never, Taiwan is about to showdown. The United States will not worsen its relationship with China to protect Taiwan, given if China-US relation is not hostile. It is Japan who is maintaining the status quo of the Taiwan Strait, and behind this stands Russia. China, on a different look, is facing the path selection Japan had in the World War II. The keys to China-US relation are held in the hands of China; it is similar to the eve of World War II when the keys to Japan-US relation was held in the hands of Japan. What determines China's fate in the 21st century is a friendly Trans-Pacific relationship, and not close ties with Eurasia. From an economic perspective, Chinese investments in Europe enjoy a much better return than its investments in the United States. It can even be said the U.S. does not have investment projects that will results in good returns economically. However, this is only the calculation of an excellent businessman. It has always been economic obeying to politics and military, and not the other way around. China is far from one homogenous body. Looking at mainland China, it can be differentiated into 8 zones based on the different economic and cultural characteristics. Furthermore, the differences between those 8 zones within China can be even more significant than the differences between European countries such as the UK, France, and Germany. Southern China has 4 zones, including "Two Guang Two Hu," "Zhe Gan Min," "Su Hu Wan," and "Yun Gui Chuan Yu"; Northern China has 4 zones, including "Lu Yu," "Hua Bei," "Dong Bei" and "Xi Bei." The provinces and cities within the same zone share similar cultures, and the people have historically established close ties. The Chinese migrants to the world in the 21st century are somewhat similar to the Jewish migrants in the 19th and 20th centuries. Jewish migrants brought business and finance to the world. The 21st-century Chinese migrants will bring industry and investment to the world. This time, Chinese people will migrate as investors and technicians. It will not be big enterprises or ultra-rich people; it will be self-employed Chinese farmers, private small and medium Chinese business owners, and Chinese technicians.
