About the Book

Norman Pugh is not a happy man. As if being made redundant isn't bad enough in itself, he's now unable to fulfil his wife's cherished ambition of going on holiday to Ibiza-certainly not this year... quite possibly not ever. And Mavis Pugh is not an understanding woman, given that her chief aims in life are continuing to rule her husband's sex life with a rod of iron (sometimes literally)... and spending two weeks in Ibiza. The explosive combination of these desires, thwarted or otherwise, has now resulted in the forcible eviction of Pugh from the marital home. And so he sits in the pub while he tries to summon up sufficient Dutch courage to go and chuck himself into the canal. But Pugh's problems have hardly begun. It transpires that he has been earmarked as a 'Major Benefactor of Mankind' by the Forward Planning Department of the Heavenly Host. And it is down to his guardian angel (Farrington Peasgood) to prevent Pugh's suicide at all costs. Peasgood knows that this will not be an easy task and finds he has no option but to call in a favour from The Other Side. The ensuing chaos and confusion will have you gasping for breath as this fast paced hilarious romp takes flight. Who knows where it will end. Whatever you expect the outcome to be...you will almost certainly be wrong. This is Peter Barrie's debut novel and will appeal to readers who like a book with more twists and turns than a coalition government at a Chubby Checker concert! It is funny, sexy and very, very wicked ...Warning: Adult content not suitable for under 18s
About the Author: Peter Barrie was born in Manchester, in the North West of England, and lived there until he was fifty years of age. As he himself puts it, "That's more than three life-sentences: it was high time to go somewhere else!" So he and his wife (Hache L. Jones, whose work is also published by Kensington Gore Publishing) moved up into the Pennine hills, on the outskirts of the neighbouring town of Rochdale. And there they stayed until retirement, at which point they sold up and moved to Montpellier, in the South of France, where they now live. During his working life, Peter has been (in chronological order) a washer-upper in an airport hotel kitchen, a mail-boy, a (failed-and very bored) librarian, a mail-order company office supervisor, a business analyst, and a computer systems analyst. Throughout that lot, he has written and he has painted. He still does both. Mostly, these days, he paints ("Well, with the brilliant light you get in the South of France, you'd be an idiot not to...") But the word processor hasn't been entirely neglected, either. Familiar Angels is a mad fantasy-a sort of "What would happen if?..." the political ideals of Margaret Thatcher were to be applied (with suitable Civil Service spanner-throwing, of course) to the millennia-old relationship between Heaven and Hell. The author does not regard it as the kind of book you should send your ageing Puritanical grandmother on her 91st birthday... but everyone else is fair game.
