About the Book

BESTSELLER DEBUT IN EUROPE A desperate mother fights for the life of her little daughter and drags her from doctor to doctor. It appears normal, but things are not always what they seem... Why can't the doctors find any physical defect? Rose's mother doesn't love her daughter, but only loves the attention she as a mother gets from medical staff. In this intense, shocking novel, without unnecessary drama, Roos Boum looks back to a childhood that has been ripped apart by a mother who perpetrated the Munchausen by proxy syndrome. Dr. Marc D. Feldman M.D. Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Alabama, author of books on this subject, about False Jasmine, A Youth Ripped Apart: "In this uncompromising account of child maltreatment and adult redemption through education, Roos Boum has presented a world most of us, happily enough, will never encounter. But this form of hidden abuse and neglect must be widely exposed if it is ever to disappear. This is the most engaging and immerse true-life novel about Munchausen by proxy that has ever been written and I applaud Roos for her triumph." Elsevier, world's leading publisher of science and health information: "Painted with cutthroat accuracy." Biblion. Dutch library organisation: "A disturbing, moving story making the reader feel desperate to intervene." Maasstad press: "A dark family secret."
About the Author: Roos Boum (pronounce Rose) born in 1963 in The Netherlands, emigrated to France in 2001. Thinking, due to her illness of which she would not live ol' bones, she did not finish her school. Roos had no future for a long time due to this incurable illness, apart from all the nasty examinations she had to go through. Strangely enough she did not die young as her mother said she would. It was not till her 40th till she found out, her mother had lied her whole life to her, making up illnesses that Roos did not have. Lying to doctors, lying to the family, lying to Roos. When Roos discovered this dark family secret, she was going to the bottom to find out everything of her youth, just to discover her mom had perpetrated Munchausen by proxy on Roos. Roos started writing and has done so since then. In writing she found her therapy to cope with her past. She had written ten novels so far, won many writing competitions and her motto is: It's not what you have experienced, it's how you cope with that. Read her incredible story in False Jasmine, A Youth Ripped Apart.
