Das Lernen anhand von Fallstudien hat in der Ausbildung von Studierenden mittlerweile eine lange Tradition. Es wurde ursprünglich an der Harvard Law School entwickelt. Gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde erkannt, dass der Unterrichtsstoff anhand von praxisorientierten Fallstudien viel anschaulicher vermittelt werden kann, als mit Hilfe herkömmlicher Lernmaterialien. Bereits zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden Fallstudien an der Harvard Business School in der betriebswirtschaftlichen Ausbildung von Studierenden eingesetzt. CTR-Business-Cases stellen eine Weiterentwicklung dieser Methode dar, wobei die Abkürzung CTR für Compact Teaching Reality, also übersetzt komprimierte Lernumgebung steht. Als Bearbeiter schlüpfen Sie in die Rolle eines Managers oder Unternehmensberaters und erarbeiten einen strukturierten Lösungsansatz für die in der CTR-Fallstudie aufgeworfenen Probleme. Im Rahmen der Bearbeitung von CTR-Business- Cases soll zum einen die wahre Ursache der identifizierten Probleme herausgearbeitet und zum anderen wirksame Lösungsansätze entwickelt werden. Alle CTR-Business-Cases basieren auf realen Fällen. Zum Schutz des jeweiligen Unternehmens werden alle Angaben zum Unternehmen verfremdet und die handelnden Personen vollständig anonymisiert. So sind auch alle Dialoge etc. frei erfunden.
