About the Book

When Julie Dalton, a pretty, young English teacher in Berry Township, a Northeast suburban area, is found murdered in the school's field house, Kado Dolan, a 60 year-old retired teacher is asked to teach the victim's classes. The victim has left a clue on the dusty blackboard in her classroom. As a result many possible killers emerge: a fellow teacher, a former student, and angry cheerleader, a pressured student, a jealous sister, and a high school beau. George Clews, the Berry Police Chief and a former student of Kado's, holds a press conference and announces that Julie had sustained multiple stab wounds. Once he learns that Kado will be teaching Julie's classes, he asks her to keep her eyes and ears open for any information that will help solve her friend's murder. One night while preparing her lesson plans, Kado gets a weird idea and calls George. Together they unravel the extraordinary clues that bring the killer to justice.
About the Author: After a 27 year career as a high school teacher of English & Speech in Cherry Hill NJ, I retired...sort of. I continue to tutor both bedside and private students and have also substitute taught and acted in TV commercials. For fun, I play bridge, write, and enjoy my 6 grandchildren. My teaching was both the inspiration and the source of Fall of Indian Summer. I think many of my colleagues will recognize that some of the events in the book were based on real situations at school. I was born in Western Springs IL, and there are few, if any, who can make that claim. You see Western Springs has no hospital. I was born at home on Prospect Avenue, next door to the house where my father was born. My mother had had her first 2 babies in the hospital and was so happy with home delivery that she wrote an article published in American Family magazine. My first national radio and television appearances were at the age of 9 on a long-ago, well-known show called The Quiz Kids. My sister Virginia Rhoads Kingland and my brother Gurrie Clark Rhoads were also on the show. Besides Virginia and Gurrie, I have 3 other siblings: Paul Kelly Rhoads, a prominent Chicago lawyer; Cheryl Felicia Rhoads, actress, comedian, director, producer, and owner of a renowned acting school in Falls Church VA; and Mark Quentin Rhoads, author of the recently published Land of Lincoln, a clever compilation of tales from Illinois history. I hope you enjoy Fall of Indian Summer, a Kado Mystery; the next in the series, called The Winter of Berry Discontent, is coming soon.
