About the Book

"Fall from Grace" is a timeline on the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago that celebrated its 50th anniversary of Independence during Kamla Persad-Bissessar's tenureship as first woman Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. Rhona Simone Baptiste has once again faithfully recorded the political background of news and events against which Kamla Persad-Bissessar's Victory of the People as it was dubbed on May 24th 2010 was to fall in defeat on September 7th 2015. As the People's Partnership, her leadership embraced her own United National Congress, with the Congress of the People, the National Joint Action Committee, the Movement for Social Justice, and the Tobago Organization of the People. Kamla Persad-Bissessar's legacy can be traced from Baptiste's postings, blogs and columns across the five years. Her records, popular on social media, include the (Un)Easy like Sunday Morning articles and her Letters to the Prime Minister. The collection is useful reference for social studies, history buffs and readers interested in the dynamics that shaped the lives of those who arrived on the shores of what the colonizers then called the West Indies. This was once a Spanish, French and English-speaking colony but some five hundred years later, Trinidad and Tobago is an now an Independent Republic caught up in the throes of its own growing pains. Its accidental mineral wealth of oil, gas and asphalt, contributed to it being a special Caribbean case study especially in light of its multi-culturalism where the two major races are from Africa and India.
