About the Book

The organization of the Christian Religion was on Emperor Constantine's Battlefield. He had a vision of the cross in the sky which he considered a sign from God to conquer his enemies by use of the God of the Christians. We still have a battlefield approach to our faith. Much violence has been done in the Name of Jesus since the time of Constantine. Instead of encouraging us to be the salt of the earth or light of the world we have been encouraged to dominate, intimidate, and subject others. We need a renewed call for the transformation of our faith based on love.

Today, we promote our faith as a business venture or country club. Love should define who we are as a people of faith. Others should be moved by the natural principle of attraction to Christ's unconditional love and redeeming purpose. Despite persecution and martyrdom, Christians during the first 300 years were growing in numbers and had a reputation for living lives of love, service, and integrity. Constantine used the Christian faith as a tool to bring his kingdom together. This became a Faustian bargain for the Church -- we sold our soul for the Roman Empire's comfort, acceptance, and position. We stopped being the persecuted church and became the persecuting religion. It is time to reclaim our faith and our calling to be counter-cultural!

In this book, you will discover that Emperor Constantine was a brilliant strategist and social engineer. He did something that the world had never seen. He conquered our faith and weaponized our religion in the world for almost 2,000 years. Our violent past continues to haunt us today. We still have vestiges of his imprint on our religion today. Our desire for superiority and self-righteousness is well-known to non-believers. We have many who have been damaged or injured by a faith that does not reflect the love of Christ. Constantine valued and promoted power, position, prestige, and possessions. How different than the values of Christ: love, peace, generosity, forgiveness, and acceptance.

The purpose of this short book is to explore our religious origins within a group setting. Each chapter will have discussion questions to encourage thoughtful analysis of our faith in relationship with Constantine's definition of the religion of societal and military control. It is the author's hope and prayer that we will once again demonstrate grace during a period in our history that is divided, discordant, and violent.
