About the Book

"Life as we know it is leapfrogging, Powered by mankind, it is developing existencial and astronomical powers, risks and hopes. In this context, there is a urge for Ethics to be operational regarding extreme scales. The purpose of this work is to propose a integrated and workable model of the universe, with the ultimate goal of allowing for Ethical questions to be explicitly defined and addressed at extreme scales. This work is addressed to Ethicists, and is proposed as a sandbox to play efficiently with."Adrien Normier is an aerospace expert, Msc in Aerospace Vehicle Design from Cranfield University (UK), general engineer from Ecole Centrale de Lyon (France), Airline Pilot on the B777, co-founder of www.wingsforscience.com, and developer of the boardgame Existence, Life & the UniverseIn the past 15 years, he specialized in the operation of manned and unmanned aircrafts to the most remote places of the planet, from mapping Greenland glaciers, to sampling Indonesian volcanoes. In support for scientific and environmental research projects, he co-founded www.wingsforscience.com, and spent 4 years overflying our globe at low altitude with microlight aircrafts for this purpose. This led to the co-authoring of two books and 32 documentary movies. These years of hands-on experience and scientific observation led to an acute insight: Life has entirely processed our planet, from its ocean to the atmosphere, from pole to pole. It is exponentially accelerating, powered up by mankind, with nobody at the controls. While those exponential effects challenge the limits of our pale blue dot, arises the possibility that we, humans, within the decades to come, unleash the incredible transformative power of Life, to the infinite scales of the extrasolar space. The thing is: this existential move, perhaps the most important for our ultimate values, is to happen freely, pushed forward by a handful of egotic billionaires: shouldn't we care ?Thinking ethically at large scale is not that easy, involving processes that lie beyond intuition. The initial indignation led to the development of a representational model for our universe at large scales. This is the subject of this essay, initially proposed by Adrien Normier as a thesis for a Master in Philosophy of Science from Paris Sorbonne University, and published here as a tool, aimed at powering up long range space ethics with firms grounds.
