On the surface, Exploding Gummies is an illustrated adventure story for kids, but it also serves as an invaluable tool to help parents articulate the moral basis for ethical Veganism to their children.
Using terms that youngsters can grasp and process, this story helps parents connect to their children's inherent desire to end suffering for living creatures-and to cultivate this impulse by embracing a lifestyle of ethical Veganism.
Exploding Gummies tells the tale of two sweet gummy candy friends who want to learn more about where they came from. This desire takes them on a startling journey deep into the world of candy production.
Sadly, as the gummies discover along the way, the process used to create them bears no resemblance to the delightful, brightly-colored, final product. They learn that animals must die in order to create gelatin-a key component of gummy candies-and that it is only the suffering of many pigs, cows, chickens, and horses that brought them and their relatives into existence.
About the Author: Sam and Aiden George co-created Exploding Gummies as a bedtime story when Aiden was only four years old. The father and son live in southern California and are passionate about creating inventions that help improve human life.
Sam transitioned to ethical Veganism while a teenager, over two decades before Aiden was born. He began writing about animal rights and Veganism in college creative writing classes, often offending the professors at his Midwestern university since Veganism was not mainstream in 1989. After college, he ghost-edited blogs and papers on animal rights and ethical Vegan themes, but never considered publishing a book under his own name until after Aiden was born. This book comes to life because Aiden wants to share the stories we have written with his friends and children the world over.
Sam believes that Veganism is the best ethical gift he can give Aiden, who has been Vegan since birth.
