Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Die Tourismusbranche unterliegt einem Strukturwandel. Die Zahlen der F.U.R Reiseanalyse beweisen: Der große Boom in der Tourismusindustrie ist vorbei, der Markt stagniert - zumindest zeitweilig. Die Anzahl der Urlaubsreisen ist bereits 1999 gegenüber 1998 um 800.000 auf 62,6 Mio. zurückgegangen. Die Urlaubsreiseintensität ist ebenfalls von 76,4% auf 75,3% gesunken. Insgesamt waren im Vergleich zum Vorjahr nur noch 48,0 Mio. Urlaubsreisende unterwegs - dies bedeutet einen Rückgang von 500.000. Nach den Einbußen des abgelaufenen Touristikerjahres 1999/2000 wird zumindest für das kommende Jahr nur noch ein Wachstum von drei bis vier Prozent prognostiziert - „Rückkehr zur Bescheidenheit" - wie es die FVW International so treffend in Ihrer Beilage „Deutsche Veranstalter in Zahlen - Der Markt stößt an seine Grenzen" formuliert. Viele Experten und Reiseveranstalter sind sehr verhalten in ihren Prognosen und rechnen mit einem weiteren schwierigen Jahr für die Reisebranche. Trotzdem hat der europäische Veranstaltermarkt deutlich zugelegt: Denn die zehn größten europäischen Veranstalter weisen für das Touristikjahr 1999/2000 Umsatzzuwächse aus. Jedoch kam dieses Wachstum der Unternehmen zu einem großen Teil in Form von Fusionen und Übernahmen zustande, so daß sich gerade auf europäischer Ebene die Marktkonzentration fortsetzt. Von einer Krise im Reiseveranstaltermarkt kann keine Rede sein. Die internationale Tourismusbranche gilt immer noch als einer der wachstumsstärksten Wirtschaftszweige. Insgesamt expandiert der Reisesektor im langjährigen Durchschnitt um etwa 2% stärker als die Weltwirtschaft. Dabei trägt die Branche knapp 12% zum Weltinlandsprodukt bei, wobei in Deutschland der Anteil am Bruttoinlandsprodukt 8% beträgt. Jedoch führt die im Moment stattfindende Konzentration in der Branche zu einer weiteren Verschärfung des Wettbewerbs unter den Marktteilnehmern.
