Dans cet essai, le sociologue Pierre Fraser use de la métaphore de la dinde pour nous faire voir une réalité qui est la nôtre et qui pourrait échapper à notre conscience. Une réalité où les individus pourraient avoir l'impression de se faire prendre pour une dinde, littéralement dans le sens d'être farci et manipulé par les cris alarmistes des médias et un mode de vie qui inhibe toute tentative de s'extraire de la mangeoire à sémantique qui nous est présentée, que dis-je, qui a servi à nous élever, et non nous instruire.En 2011, j'ai préfacé le premier tome de l'essai Dindification de mon collègue et ami Pierre Fraser. À cette époque, je soulignais que l'idée de dindification, pour surprenante qu'elle puisse paraître, faisait de nous des volatiles insoucieux de l'avenir et ignorants du sort qui nous guette, idée que je maintiens toujours, et qui est on ne peut plus d'actualité avec la montée des réseaux sociaux au cours des dix dernières années. De plus, comme je le mentionnais également à l'époque, si la dindification est une tendance qui nous propose chaque fois une certaine vision du monde, plusieurs d'entre nous arguerons de leur lucidité et de leur vigilance, convaincus que de ne pas se laisser prendre au jeu. Nous pouvons être de très bonne foi, et si le dindificateur, comme le dit si bien Pierre Fraser, est celui qui a foi en un discours, j'irai personnellement plus loin et je parlerai de cette foi inébranlable que nous affichons parfois envers les discours mobilisateurs.Et c'est là où les choses deviennent intéressantes, car le discours mobilisateur dispose de cette étonnante capacité à mobiliser à la fois les institutions et les individus dans une direction donnée. Par exemple, l'écologisme, la saine alimentation, la santé par l'activité physique, l'intelligence artificielle, le transhumanisme, le sans-frontiérisme, la théorie du genre, la croissance personnelle, l'entrepreneuriat et bien d'autres encore peuvent devenir une certaine façon de faire, et c'est là où se situe le noeud du problème. Si, en 2011, Pierre Fraser expliquait que par l'effet combiné des journalistes, des gourous, des experts et des spécialistes, la dindification était susceptible de tromper notre vigilance en nous gavant de prêts-à-penser, en nous disant de nous comporter de telle ou telle façon, d'adhérer à telle ou telle idée, et cela, toujours pour d'excellentes raisons, il n'en reste pas moins qu'il avait totalement omis d'analyser un aspect pourtant fondamental d'un discours mobilisateur, à savoir comment se forge un discours mobilisateur et comment il parvient à se diffuser.
