About the Book

This book brings together Bill Shreffler's 40 years of business experience with Jackie Smith's 16 years of NFL experience playing for the St Louis Football cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to highlighting Bill's management philosophy Jackie details how his experiences with famed coaches Don Coryell and Tom Landry draw parallels between the business and sports world. In 1999 the concept occurred to Bill that a thematic motivational program he used in several organizations drove incredible results. An added benefit is that this process created tight knit teams. Bill took the football concept that is outlined in this book and created a program called Play To Win(TM). Play to Win is a proven, award-winning program for delivering great results by creating loyalty, teamwork and focus.
About the Author: Bill Shreffler is a seasoned, senior executive with 40 years of experience in the telecommunications, manufacturing, and service industries. He has started four companies, created new regions and turned poor performing operations into company leading operations on all key operating metrics. He has learned how to motivate teams, create key measurement criteria at all levels of the organization and achieve high levels of productivity and success. He is the President and CEO of Datastream Media and the past President and CEO of Pulse Broadband. Bill was also the Chairman, President and CEO of Broadstripe and President and COO of Cebridge Connections (renamed Suddenlink). He was on Charter Communication's executive management team as Senior Vice President of the Midwest Division serving 1.8 million customers and as Senior Vice President of two of Charter's regions. Prior to Charter Bill worked in senior management roles with several other telecommunication companies. He lives in Nashville Tennessee with his wife, son and dog. Jackie Smith is a former professional American football player in the National Football League. He played tight end for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys from 1963 to 1978. He has career marks of 480 receptions, 7,918 yards, and 40 touchdowns. He attended Northwestern Louisiana State University, now Northwestern State University. An outstanding football and track competitor at Northwest Louisiana, Smith joined the Cardinals in 1963. Smith became the Cardinals' starting tight end during his 1963 rookie season and remained a fixture at that spot the rest of his tenure in St. Louis. The team's offensive co-captain, Smith had a string of 45 straight games from 1967 to 1970 with at least one reception. He played in 121 straight games, starting with his first NFL contest until a knee injury sidelined him in his ninth season in 1971. Smith played in five straight Pro Bowls, and was named All-NFL in 1967 and 1969. After spending his entire career with the Cardinals, Smith signed with Dallas in 1978. Immediately upon retirement from football, Smith became associated with Hobie Cat Boats Company of Oceanside, CA where he assists in the design and marketing of their unique fishing boats. He also spends a lot time in the boats with his 14 grandchildren in addition to attending the many sporting events they are involved in.
