About the Book

"I never understood what people meant when they would say that they had a "spiritual awakening" until the day that I had one of my own. During this moment of enlightenment I could hear the roars of the train running across the pathways in my brain, the opening and closing of file cabinets, and the voices of my elders and ancestors. Yet neither sound nor voice was more powerful than the words that continuously played through my mind, "Know who you are." I thought how everything new intrigues me these days and how I spend hours reading, searching, and researching to find the truth in things and not what I was learned to believe. I sought to find answers to why humans behave the way they do, why have I been groomed to believe I am going to hell, and why do theologians claim to know the "real" interpretation of The Bible when they weren't there. I find that after living a life riddled with addictions and afflictions, it's time for me to find a reality that is of my own being. A life birthed by purpose and not circumstance. I find that the best way for me to find myself is by giving myself away. I have to rid my inner being of that which I used to be in order to become whom I was created to be." Tormented by the obsession with drugs and alcohol for almost two decades, Tonia has finally done something her addiction didn't afford her; she has followed through on her writing. This spiritual journal shares everything she acknowledges, accepts and lives through as she pens her life experiences. This part one of a life's journey is part of her truth that true knowledge is gained through experience. It is these life experiences that have given her the freedom to express beyond doubt, that change does in fact occur, and that recovery is a gift. Tonia practices various mediums of art with a focus on culinary. Although she plans to continue publishing journal entries, she hopes to publish a cookbook which she says will appease her fans and followers that have been "waiting patiently for quite some time". Tonia lives in Philadelphia.
About the Author: Amongst the many titles she holds, Tonia Renae has most recently become an author who gained her education and expertise through lived experiences. Battling the disease of addiction for almost 20 years has afforded her a wisdom that can only be gained through active participation. Through vivid narration, Tonia pens insight to what it was like suffering with mental health and substance abuse disorders, and how she now lives a life free of the afflictions. Like a child who has found her voice, Tonia's recovery has given her a freedom that she acknowledges as a gift available for anyone willing to receive. Her spiritual background and trainings have afforded her the ability to reach out through faith and spiritual based counseling. She utilizes this credential with the utmost sincerity as she shares her truth about finding who you are and letting go of who you were taught to be. One could ask what qualifies her to speak so adamantly on these subjects and she would humbly say that her validation lies within a single statement: "Who am I not to?" Born in Titusville, PA. Raise in Connecticut, Tonia now dwells in Philadelphia where she currently works as a Certified Peer Specialist. She models transformation, resiliency, and hope, while addressing and overcoming barriers to her peers with mental health disabilities. "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." - Helen Keller
