About the Book

Bernard Ashton returned to the area in March 2008 at the request of Henry Rosenthal and Catherine Mantle. Bernard trusted Henry and was loyal to him. Henry was not loyal to Bernard. From 2002 through 2005, Bernard worked for Brenner Jenkins and interacted with Henry and Catherine during that period of his employment. Henry was impressed with Bernard from day one and was unsuccessful in his attempt to steal him from Brenner. Community leaders and all but one locally-elected official were also impressed with Mr. Ashton from day one: when they learned of Bernard's unexpected return to the area, they celebrated his return and immediately utilized his expertise and leadership abilities. He was appointed to the Transit Advisory Committee in March and in May Bernard Ashton was voted Chairperson of the Transit Advisory Committee. Department Director Marshall Renter refused to acknowledge that Bernard was Committee Chairperson and he voiced his displeasure with Henry. In June, Bernard was interviewed by a local reporter and, in July, the newspaper article was published. Book I begins with a rogue meeting convened by Kevin Butcher. Mr. Butcher considered Mr. Ashton an uppity thug: he believed that people like Bernard had their place and that a leadership position was outside of his lane. The purpose of the meeting was to railroad Bernard Ashton and destroy him and his career by any means necessary. In attendance at the meeting were: Jennifer Paris, Marty Ruskin, Mike Justin, Henry Rosenthal, Larry Tompkins, and Liston Jasmine. Henry planned the meeting. Kevin arranged the meeting. No one was supposed to know about this closed-door meeting. No one knew that Wrhet Sparks had inadvertently recorded it. Not even Bernard. They succeeded in railroading Bernard and they nearly destroyed his career with the help of participating agencies, having both violated multiple local and state policies and bribed local and state judges. They failed to destroy Bernard but engaged in a smear campaign. Bernard was a hopeless underdog until Chauncey Poindexter uncovered the Dunn Deal. Blacklisted and blackballed, it took Bernard several years to recover; however, he revived his career, despite perjuries and misrepresentations in depositions and the public record.Kevin Butcher is a locally-elected official and black like Bernard Ashton. Jennifer Paris is a corporate attorney. Marty Ruskin is a corporate attorney. Mike Justin is a chief executive officer. Henry Rosenthal is a section supervisor. Larry Tompkins is a department director. Liston Jasmine is a human resources manager. Bernard Ashton is a city planner. Wrhet "Eagle" Sparks is a custodian. Bernard studied the organization's rules and played by the rules. Mike became involved because Henry, Larry and Liston discounted company rules. To conceal a done deal, and stopgap a domino effect, all of the rules were circumvented. Book I includes the Deposition of Mike Justin; the Deposition of Larry Tompkins, and; the Deposition of Liston Jasmine. Book II includes the Deposition of Marty Ruskin, the Deposition of Jennifer Paris, and; the Deposition of Henry Rosenthal. Book III includes twenty transcripts, many of which were smoking guns. Book IV includes the beginning of the Deposition of Bernard Ashton. Book V concludes the Deposition of Bernard Ashton and transitions into nonfiction with "Ripe for Review!" and "Ripe for Review, Too!" Both are based upon actual events. "Ripe for Review!" is about perjured depositions submitted as part of summary judgment in 2012 and "Ripe for Review, Too!" is about a strategy to employ the former 2012 misinformation and misstatements to abrasively ruin an employee's advancement as well as their career. In "Ripe for Review!" and in "Ripe for Review, Too!" due process of law was denied.
