Euripides hat sich für die expositionsscenen seiner tragödien ganz feste regeln gebildet, die schon in der Alkestis gelten und, so viel be kannt ist, keine ausnahme erleiden. Er beginnt die handlung niemals schon im prolog, d. H. Der scene, welche dem einzugs des choms vor. Hergeht (wie Soph. In Ant. 0 teilt aber in ihm dem publicum ganz ausführlich die voraussetzungen mit, die er für sein drama macht. Au�er dem nennt möglichst in den ersten versen die redende person sich und den ort der handlung, beides mit zufügung des pronomens 668 (v. 3. Getrieben hat den Euripides zunächst kunstsinnige aber abstracta über legung: er hat den begriff der exposition als eines intregrirenden teiles des dramas scharf gefafst und, ähnlich wie die spätere rhetorik die teile der rede, ganz rein herausarbeiten wollen. Ferner verschmähte er die gemeine spannung des publicums zu erregen, die nur in der neugier be steht, was wird daraus: der zuschauer soll nicht weniger wissen als die handelnden personen, sondern mehr. Er hat darin ganz wie Lessings theorie gmxrteilt, nicht wie Lessings praxis: der ävayrwgwyd; des Nathan würde nicht so ganz abfallen, wenn der zuschaner durch einen prolog unterrichtet wäre, in wie naher beziehung Nathan, Tempelherr, Saladin, Klosterbruder stünden. So weit hat also Eur. Ganz recht. Aber die ausführung ist der manier verfallen und hat den spott des Aristo phanes mit recht erfahren. In diesem falle mufste so viel notwendiger weise erzählt werden, wie das publicum als voraussetzung der neuen handlung wissen sollte, also alles was mit Lykes zusammenhängt. Aber die genealogie des Amphitryon verdiente diese breite wahrhaftig nicht besonders schleppend wird der eingang durch die häufung des relati vischen anschlusses 2, 69 4, é'v0a 4, fir 5, 08 6, 7. In des sind sie nicht alle dem 119 mix older untergeordnet, denn silbe kannt ist nur Amphitryons name, weil er mitgatte des Zeus ist. Das andere wird erzählt. Also beginnt mit 4, genau da wo das local ge nannt wird, der zweite satz, und in diesem konnte Amphitryon von sich nur in erster person reden. Auch wirkt die declamation belebend: denn nur die ersten drei verse können als frage gesprochen werden.
