About the Book

English summary: Frederic Tachou analyzes in this volume the history of pornography from 1850 to 1950, arguing that a new relationship developed between spectacle and spectator, that the system of signs specific to this media combined illusion and reality to form a new instrument that traded individual fantasies for collective phantasmagoria.
