En este trabajo se estudiaron teóricamente los procesos de transferencia de calor, análisis termodinámico y caída de presión que ocurren en el regenerador de un motor Stirling tipo gama. Del análisis teórico de estos procesos se desarrolló una metodología de cálculo con la que se obtuvieron resultados de eficiencia de estas máquinas, los cuales fueron evaluados y comparados con los resultados experimentales de otros autores, con el fin de validar dicha metodología. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la selección de mallas regenerativas de los motores Stirling está relacionada con su calibre y densidad. Sin embargo a pesar de que las mallas con mayor densidad incrementan la eficiencia térmica del regenerador, no necesariamente son más recomendables, debido a que se incrementa la caída de presión al momento de la operación del motor Stirling. Finalmente, al introducir un regenerador con una alta eficiencia en un motor Stirling, la eficiencia térmica del motor también se incrementa, sin embargo la potencia que entrega el motor es la misma. Esto indica que el regenerador puede ayudar en economizar la energía térmica, más no es un medio para incrementar la potencia de los motores.
