Depuis maintenant plus de soixante ans, le nom de James Bond vient immédiatement à l'esprit de chacun lorsqu'il est question d'espionnage. Tous les pays, surtout durant les années soixante, l'Âge d'Or du genre, ont eu leurs clones du héros de Ian Fleming, mais aucun n'a connu le succès, loin s'en faut, du super-espion anglais. A l'heure actuelle, beaucoup d'entre eux ne sont plus que des parodies bondiennes, comme le français OSS 117 interprété par Jean Dujardin. Déjà dans les années soixante, lorsque le personnage imaginé par l'écrivain Jean Bruce était un populaire héros de cinéma bien plus sérieux, il était généralement considéré comme un sous-Bond. Alors qu'il est apparu dans les rayons des kiosques en 1950, au sein de la collection espionnage du Fleuve Noir, maison d'édition créée seulement l'année précédente avec la collection Spécial Police où débutait Jean Bruce. 1950, soit trois ans avant la parution de la première aventure littéraire de James Bond. En réalité, le succès francophone de OSS 117 a été immédiat et n'a rien dû à celui, plus tardif et plus lent, de James Bond. Et après le départ de Jean Bruce pour les plus importantes Presses de la Cité, le succès de la collection du Fleuve Noir a perduré, profitant de celui des James Bond cinématographiques dans les années soixante, avec d'autres populaires super-espions, tels Coplan, Face d'Ange, le Vicomte ou TTX 75, plagiats de OSS 117 plutôt que de Bond.
Lorsqu'il ne travaille pas pour le gouvernement (comme Bond ou OSS 117 ? Non, pas vraiment !), Patrice Allart écrit sur les littératures de l'imaginaire chères à l'OEil du Sphinx. Mais il lui est arrivé d'aborder des domaines de fiction plus réalistes, comme l'espionnage à qui il a consacré Le roman d'espionnage anglo-saxon après le Watergate (éditions de l'OEil du Sphinx, 2021), espionnage à l'anglo-saxonne (éditions Monster-Bis, 2005) et Opérations Commandos au cinéma (Monster-Bis, 2009).
