About the Book

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Spanische Sprache, Literatur, Landeskunde, Note: 2,3, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Jorge Semprún wurde am 10.Dezember 1923 geboren. Nach Ausbruch des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges 1936 emigrierte die republikanische Familie Semprún zunächst in die Niederlande und anschließend nach Paris. Nach dem Abitur fing Semprún ein Literatur- und Philosophiestudium an der Pariser Sorbonne an; bevor er sich 1941 der Résistance anschloss und kurz darauf in die Kommunistische Partei (KP) Spaniens eintrat. 1943 wurde er von der Gestapo verhaftet und ins Konzentrationslager Buchenwald deportiert. 1945 kehrte er aus der Gefangenschaft nach Paris zurück, um zunächst als Übersetzer für die UNESCO zu arbeiten. Ab 1953 beteiligte er sich als Mitglied des Zentralkomitees der spanischen Exil-KP an der Organisation des Widerstandes gegen die Francodiktatur und leitete von 1957 bis 1962 die Untergrundarbeit der Kommunistischen Partei in Spanien. Aufgrund seiner Kritik am stalinistischen Führungsstil innerhalb der spanischen KP wurde er 1964 aus der Partei ausgeschlossen und arbeitet seitdem als freier Schriftsteller in Paris. Sein Romandebüt gab Semprún mit Le grand voyage (1963; El largo viaje), in dem er sich mit der eigenen Deportation ins Konzentrationslager auseinandersetzt. Die Aufarbeitung der KZ-Erlebnisse sowie seine Zeit als KP-Mitglied finden sich auch in seinen weiteren Werken wieder. So beispielsweise seine autobiographischen Erinnerungen in L'Écriture ou la vie (1994; La escritura o la vida), die nach einem Besuch der KZ-Gedenkstätte Buchenwald im Jahr 1992 entstanden. Die KZ-Erfahrung blieben traumatisch für sein ganzes Leben und die Erinnerungen an das Konzentrationslager - Erinnerungen, die sein ganzes Leben bestimmten. Sie überfielen ihn bei einem besonderen Essen oder beim Klang eines Namens. Semprún hat über das Schreiben und die Literatur die eigene Erinnerung zugelassen und
