La presente obra es una recopilación de los escritos publicados por el Geneal e Ingeniero Don Alfonso Valle Candia. Fue protagonista de muchos hechos históricos de una época importante en la historia de Nicaragua, en lo militar y en lo político. Sus ideas eran liberales, perteneció al Partido Liberal, sus ancestros también lo fueron y sus antepasados eran de estirpe militar de generación en generación. Tuvo tres hijos militares, su padre y su abuelo fueron también militares que participaron en importantes eventos de la historia de Nicaragua y sus relaciones con los países vecinos de Centro América.
About the Author: Nació el 25 de Marzo de 1870, en la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros de León, Departamento de León, Nicaragua. Sus padres fueron el Doctor y General Don José Nicolás Valle Silva y Doña Pastora Candia Mendoza -hija de Don Gorgonio Candia Arrieta y Doña Francisca Mendoza y Orellana "Mama Chica"-, siendo el Dr. Gral. José Nicolás Valle Silva hijo del Gral. Don José María Valle Echeverría, conocido popularmente como "El Chelón", y de su esposa Doña Dominga Silva Morales, hija de Doña Leona Morales de Silva. A su vez, el Gral. Don José María Valle Echeverría era hijo de Don Ambrosio del Valle y Doña Rosario Echeverría. Don Ambrosio del Valle Mancilla era hijo del Alférez Real Don Andrés del Valle y Doña Ana Mancilla, a quien la Real Audiencia del Reino de Guatemala le había concedido, en 1745, el título de las tierras del Sitio de San José del Pilón o de Octupan. Vino de Nacaome y fue vecino de la Villa de El Realejo, en Chinandega, Nicaragua. Don Ambrosio del Valle contrajo nupcias en la ciudad colonial de León con la damita Rosario Echeverría y fueron los padres del Gral. José María Valle Echeverría "El Chelón", y los Coroneles Esteban Valle Echeverría, Santos Valle Echeverría y Romualdo Valle Echeverría. En 1889, perteneció a la Comisión encargada de realizar los estudios de factibilidad del ferrocarril al Litoral Atlántico de Nicaragua, a las órdenes de su padre el Doctor e Ingeniero Don José Nicolás Valle Silva, siendo Ministro de Fomento y Obras Públicas el distinguido ciudadano Don Pedro R. Ramírez. Fue Cadete de la Academia Politécnica de El Salvador. El año de 1890, fue Oficial del Ejército de la República de El Salvador en la guerra que los hermanos Ezeta le hicieron a Guatemala y ganó el grado de Capitán. Ese mismo año, 1890, fue a vivir a Costa Rica, regresando a Nicaragua en 1892, con el fin de ir a estudiar Bellas Artes a Europa en virtud de Decreto del Congreso Nacional, que estaba ofreciendo becas. Aliado el Gral. José Santos Zelaya López. En 1899, como Coronel de un Batallón de Zapadores, fue a la Costa Atlántica de Nicaragua, con los Generales Francisco Guerrero y Guillermo Reuling, y Asisclo Ramírez, para debelar la insurrección del General Juan Pablo Reyes. Frente a Monkey Point, en el mar, capturó una goleta insurrecta y al General Emiliano Chamorro Vargas con 27 tropas entre jefes y oficiales. Falleció en Managua el 21 de Abril de 1961.
