About the Book

ILEANA ÁLVAREZ (Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, 1966). Poeta, ensayista, editora y periodista. Directora fundadora de la revista Alas Tensas (www.alastensas.com). Sus estudios literarios abordan temas centrales de la historiografía desde puntos de vista muy personales, en los que se aparta de la versión oficial y los ecos de la crítica. El gusto por la riqueza expresiva del lenguaje y las asociaciones connotativas, hacen de su poesía una de las más interesantes y estudiadas entre las de su generación. En su obra es perceptible la importancia de la subjetividad y, como tal, la influencia de autores como María Zambrano, Alejandra Pizarnik, Dulce María Loynaz, todo el grupo Orígenes, en especial José Lezama Lima, Eliseo Diego y Fina García Marruz. Realizó las antologías de poesía escrita por mujeres Cuarto creciente (Ed. Ávila, 2007) y Catedral sumergida (Editorial Letras Cubanas, 2013) y Más allá del miedo es mi casa. Antología de mujeres latinoamericanas contra la violencia de género (Ediciones Deslinde, 2021). Su obra ha sido traducida al inglés, italiano, francés y catalán.

"Al escribir la noche, Ileana Álvarez, hoy residente en España, nos habla, entre otros asuntos, de su familia, de su Isla, de la provincia, del exilio, de su fe católica, de sus vasos comunicantes con otros creadores (Loynaz, Bergman, Mann), de su optimismo a ultranza y, sobre todo, de la apaciguada furia y abarcadora plenitud de su escritura cuando esta ilumina, con tales apoyos, la agresiva noche política que ensombreció por décadas su vida como ser humano, madre, esposa, hija y escritora cubana. Un haz de luz es aquí cada poema, pero un haz complejo en sintaxis e imágenes, ya que, para resistir, la autora se valió de un lenguaje autogenerador reproduciéndose libre e insistentemente a través de luminosas aposiciones, oraciones en paralelo y cláusulas incidentales que buscan no sólo refrenar los áridos pliegues oscurantistas impuestos desde fuera, sino también recordarle y demostrarle a la poesía cubana actual que lo político, en cuanto tema humano, no le es ajeno ni implica un menoscabo de la calidad literaria. Puesta de pie sobre la noche, la voz poética se alza, así, sin prejuicios ni temores, para abrazar lo político en lo alto de su más diversa realización e intimidad femenina. Y entrenada en la angustia de tener que habitar la noche sin más contrapesos que sus afectos y elecciones privadas, se entrega sin reservas luego a otros abismos, pues sabe que de nuevo se elevará victoriosa y, como afirmó Ajmátova en 1959, nunca se cansará de hablar. Pese a la oscuridad en constante expansión por el mundo, el sol negro de esta isla no nos secará, concluye fehaciente Álvarez insertando su yo personal en un nosotros identificable con toda la humanidad".

"Sí, Ileana Álvarez logró en este volumen doble una hazaña como sólo en su día muy pocas en Cuba. No pintó esa sensibilidad femenina chaplinesca o mestiza que, en algunos textos, siempre he sentido superficial o apenas descriptiva. Ni siquiera ha sido trágica, sino algo más: irreverente, franca, amenazadora y tersa. Por cierto, aunque a ella le pese, podría decir esto también sobre otros pocos poetas solitarios, castigados y, a pesar de sí mismos, sobrevivientes de abismos innombrables. En fin, contrariando el título de su poema antes citado, aseguro que estamos ante una autora en nada menor y más allá de cualquier antología".
