About the Book

ESCLARMONDE OF FOIX - Cathar PrincessTreasure of the Holy Grail Esclarmonde of Foix (1155-1244) was the tireless French activist and noblewoman, who became the dedicated Princess of the Cathars and her Supreme Grand-Master. It was she who worked for the reconstruction of Montségur Castle after its destruction by the Crusades in 1208.In 1214, after the reconstruction of Montségur the Magic Castle located on her family's land in The County of Foix, she decided to move to the Castle, where she went to live. After her move to Montségur, Esclarmonde moved little away from there, even in the midst of bloody religious persecutions, remaining there until her death. For it was said that there was kept the Treasure of the Holy Grail, of which she was considered her Protector and Supreme Guardian.Burned FieldWhen, in 1244, the Army of the Inquisition forced those who were refugees in the Castle to capitulate, the Cathars still had a period of 15 days to complete their spiritual task. At that time, the mysterious Cathar Treasure was hidden in the caves of the Ariège Valley and was never found. But part of it was taken by Amiel Aicard to Lombrives Cathedral. On March 16, 1244, two hundred and five men and women voluntarily threw themselves into the flames of the campfire. Esclarmonde led the group the Perfects that launched themselves at the stake but remaining unknown to the public. Legends have said that as the Perfects walked toward the campfire, holding hands and singing, one Troubadour who stood among the crowd made the following Prophecy: "After 700 years the Laurel will reflower on the ashes of the martyrs".It is necessary to remember that the Laurel is the classic symbol of victory, which is used in the making of the crown of the winners. The Prophecy of the Laurel was renewed in 1321, and its Revelation is expected to take place again in the year 2021. This should bring the healing expected by mankind with the Love of God.Fall of Montségur CastleElder Estela was concerned about the risk of an imminent invasion of the Montségur Castle.Estela was the name that Esclarmonde de Foix had called herself for the communities that lived in the Castle.Since she escaped from the local society, in the face of the persecutions she suffered from the emissaries of the king of France. For all people, her brother Raymond had told her that she had died in the caves of the Cathar Community.Since, in 1215, in an audience with the Pope in Rome, he had been told that he would only recover his possessions if he surrendered his sister Esclarmonde to the authorities. To be judged for activities they considered subversive.Raymond returned from Rome without any success in recovering his properties. And without reaching any agreement. But surrendering his sister Esclarmonde to enemies was unthinkable for Raymond. However, due to threats against her, rumors began to spread that she had died in the caves. In addition, Raymond recommended Esclarmonde to withdraw from circulation in and around Foix County.Esclarmonde started to dedicate himself to the reconstruction of Montségur Castle and to the humanitarian causes of Cathar Houses. That they assisted the widows of the crusades against the Albigenses and the elderly who were left without occupation, due to the persecutions of the king of France. When the reconstruction of Montségur Castle was finished, Esclarmonde moved to the Castle, from where she almost never left.Except for the times when she got into the Caves of the Cathars, where she stayed for long periods. In 1242, new news spread about the death of Esclarmonde in the caves, because the persecutions and searches for she had intensified again. In addition to starting to make sieges and combats in the vicinity of the Montségur Castle. But Esclarmonde continued with her aid and assistance activities in the Ussat les Bains region, close to the Castle.
