Die Studie von Arias-Schreiber hat das Ziel, den Aufbau des Epos Anchietas De gestis Meni de Saa darzustellen und herauszuarbeiten, ob dieser sich an die klassische Tradition der historischen Epik, namentlich an die Aeneis Vergils anlehnt. Das Epos wurde von José de Anchieta, dem "Apostel Brasiliens" (1980 selig gesprochen) und Gründer von Rio de Janeiro, in der Zeit von 1560 - 1563 in lateinischer Sprache verfasst. Es besteht aus über 2900 Hexametern und gilt als das erste in Lateinamerika geschriebene Epos. Der Jesuit José de Anchieta ist allerdings nicht in Lateinamerika sondern auf Teneriffa in Spanien geboren. Als er 19 Jahre war, reiste er zu Missionierungszwecken nach Brasilien, um jedoch nie mehr nach Europa zurückzureisen. Am 9. Juni 1597 starb er in der neuen Welt. Gegenstand des Epos De gestis Mendi de Saa ist die "Zivilisierung" der Einheimischen Brasiliens sowie die Umsetzung der Indianerpolitik des Generalgouverneurs Brasiliens Mem de Saa und die Vertreibung der kalvinistischen Franzosen von Brasilien im Jahr 1560. Arias-Schreiber präsentiert in seiner Studie eine kurze Biographie über José de Anchieta, beschreibt die Strukturmerkmale des Epos, dessen Quellen sowie die Verfassungszeit. Er arbeitet die thematischen Einheiten des Gedichts heraus und analysiert sie im Bezug auf den Aufbau der Handlung, Handlungsträger und Verwendung narrativer Mittel (Gleichnisse, Reden, Historizität). Das letzte Kapitel thematisiert den Aufbau des Epos im Licht der typisch strukturellen Elemente der klassischen Tradition der historischen Epik und namentlich hinsichtlich der Anlehnung an die Aeneis Vergils. Arias-Schreiber kommt zum Schluss, dass die Struktur des Epos Anchietas im Grunde genommen viele von den typischen Komponenten der historischen Epischen Tradition zeigt. Allerdings bedient sich Anchieta der Darstellungsmittel anders als Vergil, hinsichtlich der Frequenz, des Inhalts, der Anzahl, der Variation und der Komplexität der narrativen Elemente.
About the Author: Felix Arias-Schreiber Barba (Lima, Peru 1964) studierte Rechtswissenschaften an der Päpstlichen Katholischen Universität von Peru, hat den Master in Rechtssoziologie an der Freien Universität Berlin (LL.M.) und den Magister in lateinischer Philologie, Alte Geschichte und Soziologie an der Freien Universität Berlin abgeschlossen. Sein Interesse an der Geschichte Lateinamerikas und an der Philologie hat ihn bewogen, das erste in Lateinamerika in lateinischer Sprache verfasste Epos De Gestis Mendi de Saa (XVI Jh.) von José de Anchieta, dem Apostel Brasiliens, im Rahmen der klassischen epischen Tradition zu analysieren, Das Werk José de Anchietas ist wegen der sprachlichen Barrieren des Lateinischen und Spanischen im deutschsprachigem Raum kaum bekannt. Die Studie von Arias-Schreiber trägt erheblich dazu bei, diese Barriere zu überwinden.
