About the Book

English summary: The Egyptian government published a call for offers for the construction of a national antiquities museum in Cairo in 1894. More than a hundred projects were submitted, from countries across the globe, many of them from Italy. The ministerial commission met in 1895, without waiting for its Italian member, and decided in favor of a French architect. This collection of documents and analyses retraces the polemics stirred by this project, contributing original and unpublished documents from personal and governmental archives, along with articles from various newspapers that followed events and the controversial museum project. Italian text.
