La novela se desarrolla con un ritmo frenético, con descabellados giros argumentales, momentos de tensión, situaciones de crudeza; todo ello aderezado con humor ácido, sutil ironía, crítica social y defensa a ultranza de los derechos de los animales.

Erik es un alienígena vegano proveniente del planeta Vegania. Viste de torero, está aterrado y se encuentra en una estancia de la plaza de toros de Las Ventas de la ciudad de Madrid. En unos minutos tomará la alternativa y morirá por asta de toro en el ruedo. Antes del fatal desenlace, escribe sus memorias tratando de desvelar los detalles de su existencia que le permitan comprender el gran error que ha cometido y que supondrá el detonante de la inminente destrucción total del universo. Pero su única preocupación no solo es hallar el modo de proteger al cosmos del cataclismo; también pretende reencontrase con Mitty, que le acompañó en su viaje intergaláctico y que desapareció en el momento de tomar tierra.

La trama gira en torno a una premisa: el universo se autodestruye una y otra vez de un modo sistemático en el instante que Erik muere en la plaza de toros de Las Ventas. Tras la aniquilación de la realidad conocida se produce un reseteo, retornando al inicio de los tiempos, a la explosión del Big Bang. El apocalipsis anterior a la Gran Explosión se desarrolla de un modo indoloro si Erik cumple con el ritual ancestral, morir en el ruedo; circunstancia que ha sucedido, sucede y sucederá millones de ocasiones y que se producirá un número eterno de veces si nadie es capaz de detener el bucle temporal.

La diosa precursora de tanto mal es conocida como UPARI, que toma la forma de una gran máquina informática. Habita en la Sala Inmune al Tiempo y la Destrucción, recinto ubicado en la planta ochenta y nueve del edificio de la Fundación Eternidad. La Sala Inmune es el único lugar del cosmos que resiste la muerte de la realidad y permanece inalterable. En su interior se almacena la base de datos con todos los acontecimientos que suceden en cada una de las reencarnaciones desde que Erik aterriza en el planeta Tierra, hasta su muerte; por lo que cada vez que el universo resurge, la altura de la estructura aumenta.

Ingrid Castillo (Astrofísica) y Sebastián Matamoros (precursor de la misión) tratan de hallar el modo de evitar la destrucción de la totalidad del universo, por lo que fuerzan a Erik a soportar una serie de situaciones que pondrán a prueba la resistencia de sus ideales. Erik sufre situaciones que en su planeta de origen se presentan como hechos abominables; el maltrato de animales que se lleva a cabo en La Tierra descontrola su ánimo y estimula las habilidades adquiridas en la última evolución.
