About the Book

An epilepsy seizure is a lightning storm within the brain pure and simple, excess static electricity...shocking isn't it! These are the mediagenic reflections, past memories over what at the time was 40-years. Don Miller has had epilepsy for 42-years now and knows more than a little about the chronic neurological condition of the central nervous system. He takes you through all of it, from diagnosis to high school, one doomed year of college, an alcohol addiction, nearly dying three times in alcohol-induced binge blackouts, various treatments tried, diagnostic testing, a pledge of celibacy, a 53 and 1/2 year virgin, study drugs he's been on, standard anti-epilepsy-drugs he was on, sexual; physical; verbal; religious; mental on the job harassment that occurred in a factory, nervous breakdown, diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia; panic attack syndrome; anxiety syndrome; Mr. Miller does not do well when in crowds, freezes up, tears up, fast heartbeat, stutters, even with one person he has to get away after a few minutes time. Mr. Miller is available for interviews, speaking engagements for a negotiable fee about a single man's sexuality; coping; dealing with a disability on a daily basis; fitness; support groups (although the information is real, it is fictitiously combined); driving regulations; famous people who have E as it is known to the diagnosed (Florence Griffith Joyner, Hugo Weaving, Julius Caesar, Danny Glover in his youth for a few). Don is not a doctor but knows more than many doctors about epilepsy. Gentlemen, Line Up Your Cars, Start Your Engines, Green Flag, Gun Your Engines, Go Go Go! Genesis of the epilepsy, the beginning of the Electric Highway and the ups and downs of epilepsy, depression, and paranoid schizophrenia: Noble Jameson, my first neurologist, said "I've seen this many times before. When adolescence ends, your seizures will stop." My seizures will stop when adolescence ends; that was seven or eight years; seven years seemed a lifetime, eight years seemed an eternity. So began the mounting frustration and exasperation. That statement has echoed in my mind during a 40-year prolonged adolescence. The brain is like a car's engine-it controls what we do and where we go and some of us have faulty electrical systems.
About the Author: ABOUT DON S MILLER: Growing up, my idol was Superman, that and extreme nearsightedness are the reason I wear these trendy Clark Kent glasses and invisible long underwear 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days out of the year. That is probably also the reason I named one of my seizure types after him-Superman Seizures, he flies through the air, then lands with a crash like some defective paper airplane. I was born in 1963, the beginning of the psychedelic sixties, a bit too young to sample any of that free love that was going around. I grew up a Shelby Mustang muscle car, then in 1974 I had a figurative head on crash with the E word, and became a dented, rusty, surface-scratched Plymouth Duster, not too bright in his headlights. Over the years my body and brain have evolved into the driverless Mercedes-Benz F-015 luxury car. I've never had a driver's license my entire life, nor am I what they'd call mechanically inclined. I know where the key goes in, the gas goes in, and where the smoke and noise comes out. But somehow I'm going to get a Mercedes-Benz F-015, in the future, when I have my driver's license; that is going to happen, it's just a matter of time. I wonder if the bank would be willing to make a loan to an aspiring writer? I felt it important to relate the body to something we all know a little about, a car; I also felt it important to relate the brain to something we all know a little about, the engine. I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 1974 and have lived with it for 40 years so I know quite a bit about the seizure condition.
