Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Der Einsatz von Computern als Instrument in der Lehre ist keine Neuerscheinung. Schon in den 1950er Jahren wurde das Konzept der "Computer-assisted Instruction" (CAI) entwickelt und Anfang der 1970er Jahre in Deutschland unter der Bezeichnung des "Computergestützten Unterrichts" eingeführt. Erst durch die Entwicklung von Multi-Media Computern in den 1990er Jahren und die Verbreitung des Internets kam es zu einem neuen Boom in der Wissensvermittlung durch Neue Medien, der seit Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts mit dem Begriff "E-Learning" bezeichnet wird. Durch die Entwicklung und die Konzeption von Medien und Instrumenten, die neue Wege der Kommunikation und Information eröffnen, entstehen auch immer wieder neue Möglichkeiten für die Lehre und das Lernen. Auch die schnelle Verbreitung von leistungsfähigeren Computern und die weltweite Vernetzung durch das Internet haben bei der Aus- und Weiterbildung ernorm an Bedeutung gewonnen. Entgegen allen Erwartungen und Annahmen der Forschung und der Lehre nutzen jedoch bisher die Studierenden die virtuellen Lehrangebote nicht zum Erwerb von neuem Wissen, sondern vor allem zur gezielten Suche nach Informationen sowie zur Wiederholung und zur Überprüfung des eigenen Wissens. Dies zeigen auch die geringen Nutzungszeiten von häufig weniger als zehn Minuten pro Sitzung, wie die Evaluation des virtuellen Lernmoduls "Virtus" der Universität Köln ergab. Hier stellt sich die Frage, warum die sonst recht innovativ denkenden und handelnden Studierenden im Hinblick auf das Lernen mit dem Zukunftsmedium Internet eher zurückhaltend sind. Ein Grund dafür könnte das bisher noch recht unattraktive und unflexible Angebot von E-Learning Kursen sein. Um Studierende vom Lernen durch Online-Module zu überzeugen und das Nutzungsverhalten diesbezüglich zu verändern, ist es wichtig, aktive E-Learning Module zu entwickeln.
