About the Author

Prof. A. Parthasarathy is the faculty of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 1959 where he worked till his retirement in 1985. Prof. Parthasarathy has guided several students in their masters and doctoral programmes, mainly in the areas of Sedimentology, Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology. Prof. V. Panchapakesan was a lecturer at National College, Tiruchirappalli, for a short period and joined the Geology Group at IIT Bombay. He joined the faculty of the institute and continued his academic and research involvement till he retired in the year 2002. Prof. Panchapakesan’s field of interest has been Economic Geology and High Temperature Geochemistry of mineral deposits in which he has published several papers in national and international journals. Prof. R. Nagarajan, after his distinguished academic career in the masters and doctoral level at IIT Bombay, joined the Center of Studies in Resources Engineering in the institute. His present research and teaching interest is in the area of application of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) to various engineering geological and environmental projects on urban floods, railway alignment, tunnelling, recognition of areas of landslide hazards and river migration.
