About the Book

The Enemy of my Enemies is a continuation of the story of a group of courageous men that formed the backbone of a covert intelligence organization instituted by John F. Kennedy in 1961 named "The Cellophane Men". Their job was to perform services for him that his own intelligence services could not perform. The organization is headed by a former OSS and CIA operative named John Van Sanderson and a half dozen young combat-tested ex-servicemen. After Kennedy is assassinated in 1963, Lyndon Johnson becomes president. The book begins with a flashback of the assassination of John kennedy, tying the book back from Kennedy to Johnson. The scene switches to Africa, where Johnson sends Van Sanderson to attempt to work with the Zanzibari government to form the new nation of Tanzania. He accomplishes the task, but is almost assassinated by an ambush attempt. When the Republic of the Congo erupts in civil war, Johnson sends a team to monitor events. "Simba" rebels attempt to conquer the town in which the Cellophane Men are residing, and a battle ensues. The team overcomes them and then assists the Belgian Army in rescuing Europeans from the marauding Simbas. Next is the Dominican Republic adventure, where an anti-U.S. government comes to power and the country is divided between pro and anti-American forces. Johnson sends the whole Cellophane organization to coordinate the upcoming intervention of American troops. A gun battle ensues between the Cellophane Men and the anti-American rebels and one of the team is badly wounded. After informing President Johnson of the escalating violence, the invasion is moved up and the American & OAS forces overwhelm the enemy and bring peace to the Dominican Republic. Johnson next sends a teamto bolivia to prevent Che Guevara, the Cuban communist, from overthrowing the Bolivian government. The team works with the CIA to thwart Guevara and after a series of raids, he is killed in the final battle and Bolivia is saved for democracy. The last mission in this book, has the team training Czech partisans in the U.S. and Johnson then sends a team to assist in the battle against Soviet Block countries that have invaded Czechoslovakia. Even though the partisans can't defeat the Soviets, they show the world a good fight, and the world is made aware of the treachery in Czechoslovakia. This shows the Soviet Union's greatest weakness and how fragile the Soviet alliance really is with the Eastern Bloc nations. This situation ultimately leads to their downfall of the Soviet Union, some years later.
