About the Book

Marli is no ordinary kid. She was born in another realm, one separate from the one you and I live in, she can form ice with her bare hands, and, to top it off, she's not exactly human. The realm she lives in is full of monsters, but the plants and animals there are the same as Earth's, and so much more. When she finds a portal, the tunnel between the two realms, she ends up on Earth, where there are people, and lots of them. It spits her out in Italy, where she attempts to live for a while, adopting the Italian language in place of the native language of her realm, as no one understands it. Later Marli travels to America, where she enrolls in fifth grade. Partway through the year, however, when she jumped from her realm to ours through the portal, which she had set up in the Elementary School gym, a drop of her blood hit the carpet, and a monster spawned there without her noticing. The next day when she returned there with her class, it was there, unable to escape from the gym. In her attempt to freeze it, she instead hit two boys. The future was clear: She, and four others: Opal, Luna, Noah, and Bruce, had to find a cure located at probably the most dangerous place in the universe: the end of the world. Once the four others discover their spirit animals, which were a tiger, snow leopard, spirit bear, and giant eagle, along with Marli as a wolf, they were off. After monster after monster, they meet up with another kid, Ryan, one that Marli spilled her secrets to before them. He joins them on their hunt for the cure, completing the gang: six kids with totally different personalities and histories, but with a key thing in common: they were all kids on a mission to save two others, and they were going to complete it. In this story you will follow these kids as they feel love, trust, friendship, and plenty of comedy relief, all in two weeks.
About the Author: Madison Minerick, age eleven, lives with her parents and younger brother in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where it is all snow and trees. She envisions the original setting of this novel in the Elementary School gym, as she started writing this based on her and her friends when she was in fifth grade. This is Madison's first novel, and she hopes to write more books based on a combination of fantasy and her interests, which include writing (of course), hiking, and always more learning! Many parts of this story were partially based on what her and her friends do and have learned in school, and reflect the feelings at parts of her life, though probably in a different way.
