About the Book
When the demise of the world is imminent, with no possible hope of survival, several people utilize their remaining hours to indulge in the seven deadly sins, but soon discover that there's something more important. On a dark night, Norman drives through what appears to be an urban war scene, with cars flaming, abandoned vehicles, buildings marked with graffiti, and debris littering the streets. Norman seems to be alone, as he drives through the streets, with the radio indicating that a curfew has been ordered and that deadly force has been authorized. As Norman drives through the deserted streets, the radio reporter details that tomorrow morning, aliens from some unknown solar system have promised to completely eliminate Earth. All hope for peaceful resolution has been abandoned, with people seeking to either spend their last hours in the company of their families or...engaging in one or all of the seven deadly sins, namely, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Envy, Wrath, Pride, and Discouragement. As Norman drives to some unknown location, he briefly encounters Caitlin, who was a reporter, but who has now barricaded herself in her apartment, in order to satisfy her sin of Gluttony. Caitlin has spent her entire life, trying to overcome Gluttony and trying to maintain the perfect body of a model. As the night proceeds, Caitlin begins stuffing herself with all of the sweets and foods that she has avoided. In the midst of her debauchery, Caitlin is visited by Mayor Godspeed, who intends on using Caitlin to fulfill his sin of Lust. Mayor Godspeed orders his driver, Karl, to remain with the vehicle, as after Mayor Godspeed satisfies his sinful desires, he intends on spending his remaining hours with his faithful wife and children. As Mayor Godspeed enters Caitlin's apartment, Karl realizes that time is quickly fading and he races to his own family. When Karl arrives at his house, he discovers that his wife, son, and daughter have been brutally murdered, by men, who were engaging in their own sins. Karl falls into a deep despair, which quickly develops into the sin of Discouragement. As Karl's neighbor, Mike, tries to comfort him, Karl recounts all of the wickedness in the world and prompts Mike to let his own family die in peace, rather than to be torn apart by humans, who have descended into a state worse than animals. Mike considers Karl's words, then, in a despondent mood, returns to his own house, where he puts a bullet in the heads of his wife and children. Karl then begins to realize that it is Mayor Godspeed's fault that his family was murdered. Karl slowly begins to develop the urge to engage in the sin of Wrath. As Norman continues through the darkened city, he encounters Zackery, who has hoarded vast amounts of food, in preparation for an apoplectic event. His neighbor, Jessica and her young son, Morgan, plead with him to provide some food, but Zackery has relented to his sin of Greed. Marco, a teenager, who desires to be a man, just like a local gangster, named Benjamin. Marco's sin is his Envy of Benjamin, with Marco wanting to be exactly like Benjamin. At Benjamin's prompting, Marco kills an innocent store clerk, just as Karl kills Mayor Godspeed. As Norman arrives at his location, a church, he details that the worse sin is Pride, as it makes a person believe that they're invincible.
