Kvantemekanikken er i særklasse den mest omfattende og succesfulde naturbeskrivelse menneskeheden har skabt. Den har bare den ubehagelige følge, at naturen opfører sig naturstridigt - i hvert fald hvis naturen skal opføre sig fornuftigt. Over for denne udfordring udviser såvel fysikere som filosoffer stor rådvildhed. Kvantemekanikken udfordrer vores bevidsthed. Hvad er bevidstheden? - spørger bevidstheden. Denne væmmelige selvreference udelukker at bevidstheden kan finde bevidstheden ved at søge sig selv. Den ser sig selv som i et spejl og ser naturligvis det den er, uanset hvad den er. Efter Descartes har den vestlige filosofi set en uafviselig dualitet i det eksisterende, i verden. Denne dualitet betragtes udefra. På det grundlag opstår de to klassiske problemer, det psyko-fysiske problem og spørgsmålet om viljens frihed. I følge Spinoza, Descartes samtidige, er verden, os inklusive, hel og udelelig. Vi kan ikke stille os udenfor. Tilsvarende har kvantemekanikken placeret os som iagttagere i et uadskilleligt forhold til de atomare fænomener og påtvunget os et komplementaritetsprincip som hidtil har været ukendt i vores forhold til verden. Ved at forlade Descartes position og antage Spinozas/Bohrs forsvinder grundlaget for det psykofysiske problem. Ved at opfatte komplementaritetsprincippet som et naturligt, generelt vilkår for bevidstheden opløses problemet om viljens frihed kontra determinisme, idet "kontra" forsvinder og 'vilje'bevarer sin umiddelbare, oplevede betydning. Det vil så betyde at forståelsen vil forstå lidt mere af det hele.
About the Author: Student fra Sankt Annæ Gymnasium, 1961. Kandidat i matematik og fysik fra KU, 1971. Studietiden gik i høj grad med obospil i to orkestre og to blæserkvintetter samtidigt - plus det løse. Det var, i overensstemmelse med de frie og frodige muligheder dengang, en meget begivenhedsrig og alsidigt lærerig tid, hvor jeg bl. a. opnåede at spille i Concertgebouw i Amsterdam og Goldener Sal i Musikverein i Wien og spille alle Beethovens 9 symfonier på en aften og en nat - og spille håndbold i 1. division - og blive fundamentalt påvirket af kvantemekanikkens filosofiske udfordring. Med denne bagage har jeg undervist i fysik og matematik og præget musiklivet på Sønderborg Statsskole fra 1971 og til 2004 og forestået mange eksperimenter, ofte kontroversielle. De sidste to år gennemførte jeg et toårigt forsøg med fysik i samarbejde med filosofi. Det er min eneste institutionelle kontakt med faget. I den foreliggende tekst bærer jeg som naturvidenskabsmand mine inspirerende ungdomserfaringer med mig og udnytter samtidigt frygtløst at jeg ikke er bundet af fagtraditioner i faget filosofi. En kontroversiel tekst er blevet resultat.
